Optimal picture settings on your TV?
Is there a website that tells you what the best settings are for the best picture? My TV got screwed up by me messing with the contrast and brightness and all that, now i dont know how to get it back to the default settings or just the best setting.Tags: None -
Re: Optimal picture settings on your TV?
I know the Indiana Jones DVD has the THX optimized setting on it if you have that DVD. That will help with contrast and sharpness.Originally posted by fishepaYou'll need to use a special DVD to calibrate it. Many movies have THX optimized stuff on theme. You can't really use general settings since every TV is different.

In the same vein, the Star Wars dvd's have a THX setup option on the main menu. It consists of a series of audio and video calibration tests. Most of the video options don't require any sort of special equpment to use, and the whole process takes less than five minutes.Originally posted by aukevinI know the Indiana Jones DVD has the THX optimized setting on it if you have that DVD. But if you want it perfect, pick up a copy of Video Essentials. It'll take you over an hour to set up your TV, but your eyes will thank you.Comment

It's like 20 bucks. I used it on my old magnavox, improved it's quality by leaps & bounds.Comment

I noticed a significant improvement after using the relatively simple set-up diagnostics on the Star Wars dvd. I would imagine that you could make even more of an improvement with a dedicated test disk like Video Essentials.Originally posted by abates21how muchComment

Attack of the Clones, but it's included on the dvd's of all six SW films. I've also seen the same setup material on The Incredibles, Toy Story, and Toy Story 2 .Originally posted by abates21which star wars dvd did you use?Last edited by coogrfan; 01-30-2006, 05:16 PM.Comment

This is a link to a list of all THX certified dvd's, I would imagine many of them have the setup diagnostics included.

Strictly speaking, the purpose of the THX optimizer is to allow you to set up your tv for a specific movie. You will find that the settings are much better than your tv's factory settings, so you won't want to set it back.Last edited by coogrfan; 01-30-2006, 04:52 PM.Comment
