    TIVO Recording Question

I was wondering if there is a way to schedule a TIVO recording while you are away. Say...via the net? Maybe somehow log into the DirecTV site and schedule a recording when you're not home.

    Thanks.

    Re: TIVO Recording Question

Yes, there are a few ways to do it. Since you mentioned Directv, I will assume that you have a TIVO/Directv, which depending on the model, you can hack to add networking. Then you could access through your home network. If you have one that you can't or don't want to do that, you can get a Sling Box. I have one since I travel for work every week. You hook it up through a broadband connection and then you can watch tv/tivo anywhere you have a broadband connection.

There is no way that I know to do it without having setup some type of equipment first though.

        Steve,
go to tivo.com and on the left where the menu choices are, under "About TiVo Inc.", there is a link for "Online Scheduling." You might have to set up a profile or something like that, but that's what I use. Hope this helps

          Re: TIVO Recording Question

The problem is that Directv Tivos are not the same as a standalone Tivo. Directv takes a lot of stuff away, mainly the networking that would allow for remote access.

            Re: TIVO Recording Question

It takes serious Hacking of DirecTivo's to get this to work. It is a little easier for Standalone Tivos...depends on what you have.

You're not totally out of luck. You can send your TiVo's hard drive to a well known person in the Tivo community to hack it for you and send it back. Or, buy a hard drive from him that is pre-loaded with the hack you need.

Like others said, it is a good bit of modifications to do it yourself. First time I did it the time took 2 hours, the 2nd time, 45 mins.
