    Norton Security center

    It just popped up saying

    Mcafee Antivirus is turned OFF
    Mcafee Firewall is ON
    Windows updates are ON

I dont know why the antivirus turned off..but it still works, im even running a scan right now.

Anyway i can turn it on? ( from the program itself it looks like its on but i am not sure) It has me nervous that im not protected.

Also does anyone have MCafee? Do you know how to turn off those annoying pop ups on the bottom right?

    thanks

Uninstall all that Norton trash and install the free version of AVG anti virus and run a spyware client like the MS Antispyware. All free.

i've gotten that message as well when i used NS.. as a matter of fact, it would also come up saying my firewall was off (it showed a different firewall that i had uninstalled previously - which was odd).

as far as Macaffe, never used it on more than a trial basis - really didnt like it at all.. for me I use Zone Alarm..

Are you behind a router? In that case you don't even need zone alarm.

I would go this route as well. The free version of AVG Client is great. Run that and Adware and Spybot cleaners and you will be all set.

              Re: Norton Security center

Well, ZA is a software firewall, which means it blocks ports coming into your PC from over the internet. The router is a hardware firewall which the traffic hits first and it already blocks those ports, so in effect your blocking everything twice, and ZA takes up system resources which I don't like either. But if you feel comfortable with both then that's fine.

                  Norton is trash.

Get AVG, Zone Alarm, Ad-Aware, Skybot, and MS Antispyware. All 5 of those programs are free.

I've also discovered Firefox really cuts down on the spyware compared to IE too.

I completely disagree. On my PC, Norton has outperformed AVG every single time I have run them. Norton may not be free, but it's definitely not trash. Though, all the programs you listed are on my PC, except for ZoneAlarm.

I have a few concerns: My computer keeps restarting at random times. I can't find my 2 disk drives, and for some weird reason my Firefox download box showed me dowloading something I've never even heard of. Does anyone have any suggestions.
