Re: Coldplay...No More?
We could only be so lucky.
However, it'll probably last six months and will be completely forgotten about. I mean, if the Black Crowes can put aside their differences and move past their "hiatus" in a matter of three years, surely a band that doesn't seem to foster any hostility at all like Coldplay won't have a problem. This is probably just Martin's excuse to be able to go spend time with his kid without having to worry about the band. -
Re: Coldplay...No More?
Maybe Martin realizes that the band needs to forge a different sound for the next album if it wants to be taken seriously at anywhere besides the cash register.
I like Coldplay, but the band's songs are getting quite a bit of a "samey" quality to them. The current record and "Rush of Blood to the Head" are just too damn similar in sound.
Great bands evolve their sound. Just listen to the full catalog of The Beatles or U2 as an example.
Take care,

Re: Coldplay...No More?
John:Originally posted by JRodColdplay could be in the league of U2 as they are good if not great songwriters. Speaking of U2, I wish they cold return to some of their less pop sound early on. I hope U2 could put out another Joshua Tree calibur album.
Say what? "The Joshua Tree" might be the most pop album in U2's catalog.
Let's check off all the boxes of a pop smash:
Anthem? "Where The Streets Have No Name." Check.
Ballad? "With Or Without You." Check.
Song with some political overtones? "Bullet The Blue Sky" and "Mothers of the Disappeared." Check.
Soul-searcher? "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." Check.
If you want a non-pop U2 album, then check out "Zooropa" or the ironically titled "Pop." Those records, along with "October," probably were U2's two least pop records. Coincidentally, they probably are the band's two worst sellers, too.
Honestly, you'll never see another "Joshua Tree" from U2 because the band doesn't take itself that seriously anymore. Back in the 70s and the 80s, the band thought it could make a difference in the world with its self-righteousness and earnestness. "The Joshua Tree" was the peak of that, with "War" not far behind.
Then the band realized, "Hell, we're just a rock-and-roll band, so let's celebrate that and all of its excesses." The result was "Achtung Baby," which I think is U2's masterpiece. Now Bono tries to make a difference with his work to end debt and poverty in Africa, and I almost think the band just uses music as a way to express what it's like to make the transition into the middle age of their lives. I think that's why the last two albums have resonated so well with people around my age, late 30s and early 40s.
Take care,

Ooh, that's a low blow. Coldplay has talent and musical ability, two things that Nickelback are still searching for and probably never will find.Originally posted by SuperstarI actually like them, But they need a break. Just like Nickleback all their songs sound pretty much the same.

Re: Coldplay...No More?
They've just changed so much from Parachutes. When that came out they had the potential to be a good British rock band. Then A Rush Of Blood... went slightly more pop, it sold and they basically copied it to make X&Y. I was never a huge fan, but I thought they were better when they first game out.
And good call on the Nickleback comparison PK.Comment

Re: Coldplay...No More?
I've never understood the Radiohead-Coldplay comparisons. Maybe "Pablo Honey" and Coldplay have something in common, but there's almost nothing on "Kid A" or "OK Computer" that sounds like Coldplay pop.
I'd call Coldplay more of a pop Pink Floyd than a Radiohead wannabe.
