I don't buy DVDs, as I consider them to be a poor investment, but I rent a lot of movies, and the best one I've seen lately is Crash.

I have a list of test discs that I use to impress my wife's coworkers and friends, some of which are not listed here (like "The Fifth Element"). My wife and I are HUGE movie buffs, and it's a shame that I'm going to in all likelyhood rebuy the large majority whenever a winner emerges in the HD DVD/Blu Ray debate. Right now I love my 50" DLP and upconverting DVD. I prefer it in a lot of ways to dropping eight bucks for a movie ticket and being inundated with Coca-Cola ads (plus the extra bucks for a simple Diet Coke).I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

A tad under 40 for me. I've got about 20 that would qualify as my favorite movies. 10-15 are TV shows or impulse buys. The rest are music DVDs.
I spend much more money on music than movies, I've only bought about 5 DVDs over the past full year. Once I got a DVD player I collected my favorites and don't bother with too many new releases.Comment

I currently have 350, as i always buy at a local store that has buy 2 get 2 free on their used dvds. It ends up being about 6 bucks a piece for them. The problem is i dont ever watch any of them, as i dont have the time to. Good idea about the used DVD's. As for the person above who spent more on music, I did that when I was in high school, where after I got my first job my CD collection went from around 20 to over 300 within two years. Problem is that I haven't picked up a new CD since the latest Franz Ferdinand dropped some months ago. Walking through Sam Goody recently made me realize just how out-of-touch I am with the contemporary music scene (and how my fave bands have released several albums that I've never heard of). Curse of raising a toddler and being married I guess...I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

I went through a videogame buying phase when I got my first job. Now I've moved on to CDs a few years later. I just like the versitility of CDs over movies. You can listen to a CD almost anytime, a movie you usually have to sit down and dedicate 1:30-2 hours to in order to fully enjoy it. I can throw on a CD, do some homework or just mess around on OS for a while. I guess counter to you, I still have the time to find music I enjoy and still have enough time to listen to it to justify buying it so often. Speaking of Sam Goody, my local store is going out of business. Everything is like 30% off, so instead of $20, they're the same as Circuit City and other places, lol.
