Best laptop for under $1000?

Looking for a laptop for watching movies, surfing the net and a little gaming. any recommendations would be appreciated.

After having my Dell die over the weekend, I bought this laptop, love it so far, steal for the price. I personally will never buy Dell again.

I bought the same laptop just a couple days ago. I agree with you, at that price, it's hard to turn down.

It seems slightly slower than what I'm used to, but it's still very nice, especially for the price.

I'm going to bump up the RAM to a gig, should be great then. It's fine now, but can never have too much RAM.

Actually, I was just doing a little research, and I think Firefox was slowing it down quite a bit on me.

Firefox 1.5 eats up alot of memory, I found a slight adjustment that saves alot of that memory, and now it seems to be running better.

Great value for $450...

* Open about:config via your address bar.
* Type "browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers" into the bar at the top of the page, and a single option should be in the frame below. Change it from -1 to 0 to fix the problem, and you might have to restart firefox.

This is probably a dumb question...but after you mentioned it I began looking around a bit at RAM. Lets say I buy 512 mb and have them put it in for me...does that get added to the 256 mb that I currently have...or does it replace the 256?

usually you have to insert RAM in pairs or have only 1 in the slot.
