The Greatest Label of All Time

I thought this would be an interesting question, rather than the usual greatest band/artist/movie/musician/book/etc of all time.

Lately all my music purchases seem to be coming from one label: Polydor. Cream, Derek and the Dominos, early Clapton, Blind Faith, The Allman Brothers Band, etc.

    Just a question I had.

And if anybody has a link to a website which lists labels and which bands/albums they furnished upon the original release, I'd be really greatful.

Hands down, no questions about, it was so unique and we'll never see a label like it again:

I think I'm going to have to agree with that.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Ding, Ding, Ding. We have a winner. Not only were the artists on Motown great, but they had the best song writers, musicians(instruments), quality control, engineers, choreographers. It influenced EVERY major record label after it.

                      Sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously, it's hard to top Motown. That label created an entire style, an entire genre of music.

                      Take care,

Co-sign with Motown. Even though they are not the powerhouse today as they were 30-40 years ago they basically shaped the landscape of most of the music you hear out on the streets today.

Funny you mention the Philly sound, I call it the Gamble-Huff sound since it was those two that really created the Philly sound (unless you're talking something else) Anywho G+H were called the Motown of the '70s.

Yeah Philadelphia Sound with Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff. They had such artist as Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, The Ojay's, Teddy Pendergrass & Lou Rawls just to name a few.
