Is the 'old' Ice Cube back?

For people who appreciate old school hip hop remember back in the day when Ice Cube was one of the top underground hip hop artist in the game? Mostly all old schoolers would refer to probably his best work in 'Amerikka's Most Wanted' and probably his second best work in "Death Certificate'

Like many who appreciate old school hip hop, we appreciated Ice Cube's lyrical genius probably up until his first 'War & Peace' album. Even though 'The Predator' and 'Lethal Injection' were released way before those two albums were good BUT just didn't reach the level of the first two albums. I was willing to give him hope after those two albums but when he released 'War & Peace' that was probably the final death kneal of Ice Cube as a hard core rapper.

Then I heard Cube was releasing another album this summer and some tracks from it has already surfaced. Like many, I was thinking like, 'GREAT! More garbage by a washed up rapper'. But after listening to two cuts I started to hear small sounds of the 'Amerikkka's Most Wanted' and 'Death Certificate' Ice Cube. Most of you have probably already heard the 'Race Card' track he did because it's for the show 'Black and White' that he's producing on FX. Now at first I thought it was ok BUT after listening to it for a while I started to dig it. I found another track called 'Why we Thugs' and started to dig it even more.

Give it a listen and ask yourself: Is the old Cube comming back?

    Why we Thugs:

I liked the War disc, had some nice cuts on it. Dr. Frankenstein was my ****. So good that somebody stole it out my collection. The Peace disc was meh.......The second Westside Connection was more meh...

I tell you one thing, Ice Cube has really never left IMO. Every cd he drops has at least a few good songs on it. He will never get back to the Death Cert form because of his superstardom but he can still make a few good records.

I'll check those 2 songs out today. I wanna see Black. White as well.

His verse on "Grand Finale" off the Crunk Juice Album was the tightest verse on the whole album. I have always been a big Ice Cube fan I think he is slightly underrated when it come to his lyrical exploits.

Now I will say this, the cut on the Peace disc called 'Hello' with Dr. Dre and MC Ren was his best work in a long time. I did like that cut and was surprised it came from that CD.

Old school hip hop was awesome, Ice Cube, imo, never was very good.

                He's a better actor.

Well, if your refering to the 'War & Peace' Cube, which is also considered old school was not very good. But the 'real old school' Cube from the early 90's (Amerikkka's Most Wanted, Kill at Will, Death Certificate) was the most respected underground rapper of his time.

Race Card is a song used by the new FX series, Black. White.

its about black familes being made into white and whites being made into blacks..ive heard the song on the commercial.

I say he was NWA because it is well known that he was the best writer and wrote a lot of the stuff.
