DVD I rented has a tellow tab at bottom of case that prevents opening.. What gives?

I rented Orange County over the weekend and the DVD case has a flat yellow tab on the underside of the case. It seems this tab is preventing the DVD from being able to be opened.

I've tried forcing the case open, but I don't want to pull too hard and risk breaking it... If I pry the case open enough I can see inside, and the yellow plastic extends half way up inside the DVD's case.

Is there a trick involving this yellow tab to get the DVD case open, or would there be some other reason that this tab is there?

    Thanks.

sounds like the rental company forgot to take off the security measures on the case. Looks like you'll be heading back down there unless you want to break the case :/

In theory, the disc SHOULD break if you continue to pry. I can't vouch for the ones at Blockbuster, but those for Hollywood Video you can get into rather easily.

I used to work for HV and some of the cases we couldn't get opened...until we figured it out.

yep the person forgot to take out the lock.

If rented from Blockbuster, you can take a box cutter and cut the case down the spine where it is the softest and then take the movie back and they will get a new case and cover.

Or you can go back up and have them take it out.

Yeah, don't risk breaking the disc. Just take it back and have them remove it.

As for cutting the spine, that's how some guy(s) were stealing movies and xbox games from our store. We'd find the sliced cases placed with the rarely rented VHS titles.

We started keeping the new games up at the front desk and only put out display boxes. Can't really do the same with movies though.

We do the same thing, put out dummy boxes on the shelves and then have them bring that up and we get the game from cases.
