 Re: fans of underground rap?

Hiero fans...a new album out composed of b-sides and previously unreleased tracks is out. It's called "Overtime"

The majority of it is new beats laced with the same old lyrics (songs like "Phoney Phranchise", "You Never Knew", "Mastermind") but there is some stuff that I hadn't heard on there. If you're a Hiero fan it's worth it...plus mine was only $9.Lux y VeritasComment

 Re: fans of underground rap?

Yeah I've heard all his stuff. Shadows on the Sun sounds low budget though since he had to do his own production but from what I remember it was a good album.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

 Re: fans of underground rap?

I think Ant produced all of Shadows on The Sun. Ali I think produced Rites of Passage.

Shadows is a great album, my favorite work from him.Comment

 Re: fans of underground rap?

 Artist: Consequence
Album: Don't Quit Your Day Job
Producers: Canei Finch; Consequence; Darren Henson & Keith Pelzer; Kanye West (3); Karriem Riggins (2); Keezo Kane; Koolade (2); Len Woolfolk (2); YoungLORD (2)

Consequence is Kanye except with better lyrics and the inability to make beats. Thank God Kanye West is his good friend and can hook him up with beats or hook him up with worthy enough producers who on "Don't Quit Your Day Job" collectively did a great job. The album is very easy-going and has some catchy hooks and rhymes tossed in, but the lasting appeal appears to be lacking. I just don't bump this cd all that often even though it's better than solid. It is relatively short, finishing just under the 50-minute mark, and there are a few skits and interludes sandwiched in. Nonetheless, It's worth the download, or purchase. You can bring it out every so often to get some Kanye, without it actually being Kanye.- Grade: - A-

- Song to Download: - "Pretty Little Sexy Mama"
 - Produced By: - Darren Henson & Keith Pelzer

I had another album by them but I didn't like it very much. I'll try to find this one and listen to it if it's good.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

 Re: fans of underground rap?

Example of great lyrics and average production, is evry Nas album except for illmatic, if he had good production he would be the greatest..Listen to god stepson produced by 9th that makes that whole album so hot.Yezzzir, I'll cosign as well.

The beat is the most important thing to me. Like I said in a previous post, an excellent beat can carry an average lyricist. While an excellent beat can uplift an amazing lyricist. The beat draws you in the song first then the lyrics carry you to the end of the song. As usual I will use Primo as an example.

Average lyricist example A: Jeru the Damaja, Guru, Blazhay Blazhay, Big Shug
Amazing lyricist example B: Nas, Jay, Biggie, Rakim, Jadakiss

One of the best examples out there was Canibus. He was, and arguably still is, one of the best lyricist around. However, his debut album was one of the worst debuts in history. One of the main reason for this, in my opinon, was the production. The beats were average at best and no matter how good he was on the tracks, they lacked punch.

XCell, I had forgotten his remix album wasn't actually distributed hehe. it was so widespread, I had forgotten. My favourite remix tracks are "Threat" and "Allure"chuckcross.bandcamp.com
