yeah, but once again to me they sucked live on SNL. It could just me and being to old to get into this kind of music. I'll check out their album on Napster and see what is all the hype is about.

They looked bored as **** on SNL to be honest.

I think that judging a band's live performance by something you see on TV is not a proper indicator.

I saw Arctic Monkeys in March and I thought they had a good live show. Not the best I have seen, but good. I can't believe how much they have blown up. I mean, I knew it was coming but I cannot believe I've been listening to this band since November already. I think they're a really good band, but not the next whichever.

I think they're better than Art Brut.

After reading this thread last night, I went and got some of there songs. They are good, but nothing that is going to set the world on fire.

Bloc Party has a few songs that are better than any of the Arctic Monkeys songs, but overall the AM album is stronger in that there aren't any weak tracks. A fun listen all the way through, I though the Bloc Party album was a little too hit-or-miss.

i hear you, i actually thought pretty much the whole album was very good, i guess i connected to this band very well. I listen to Silent Alarm front to back all the time actually, and i rarely do that

Yeah, two different takes. I know a lot of people in love with that album. For me it has a few GREAT songs, but a few too many average songs. I feel that all of the songs on the Arctic Monkeys album fall somewhere between the great and the average songs on Bloc Party. So it is a more fun listen from start to finish for me. But if I had to choose to listen to any 3 Bloc Party songs and and 3 AM songs, Bloc Party would win easy.

Yeah, two different takes. I know a lot of people in love with that album. For me it has a few GREAT songs, but a few too many average songs. But if I had to choose to listen to any 3 Bloc Party songs and and 3 AM songs, Bloc Party would win easy.

I know people have said it is not fair to base a Band on their live performance, but for me it is vital, or else I feel like I am getting another manila villi (have no idea how to spell their name) But maybe it is just me.

I think the person commenting meant to not judge a band based on ONE live performance. To me personally, I don't really judge on live performances, but a good live band will usually lead me to like them more. In reality I may actually get a chance to see about one out of 20 bands live whose CD I buy. So really, it isn't that big of a deal. If I see a horrible show of a band I like, I usually shrug it off, keep listening to the CDs and make a mental note not to spend money to see them live again.

Definetely, one live performance could be a bad measure. I've never seen Bright Eyes live but I've heard that sometimes it's really great or very poor, depending on how much alcohol Oberst has had. But I really don't know, I've never seem them live.

I also say it isn't the best indicator of how good a band is by their TV live performances. Personally, I think television live appearance are different than actually being at the band's show.

I mean, I've seen some TV appearances of Motion City Soundtrack and Stars that didn't sound too great, but I think they are two of the best live bands - at least of who I have seen.

And Bloc Party is amazing live, my favourite band though so I may be biased.

For sure, I think that if a band has a good live show, they are a much better. Giving an example, when I saw OK Go in March, I'd only heard two songs by them. I thought they were great live so I got some of their tracks. Good band.
