    Black.White

Anybody watch this show. I know its gotta be like 2, maybe 3 ppl here who at least seen 1 episode.

I'm sure most of you already know the premise of the show so no need to go there. Let me just start by saying I cant stand that black couple. They find racism in just about anything when all of the white ppl they've been talking to have been telling them the flatout truth. They are very closed minded although they are a pretty good representation of how many blacks feel. It just shames me to see how skeptical and miscunstrued they act towards the white family.

Anyway, this may be somewhat of a touchcy feely subject here at OS but the show is entertaining nevertheless.

Seems fake to me...how do they explain the cameras to everyone? Its not like their hidden at least it didnt seem like it to me. Plus, they really look funny and "fake"...but I have only watched about 15 mins of an episode last week.

I agree with your thoughts but I am a white male so maybe it is how I view things. The one thing that bothered me on the show was when the real white father went to the car dealership and a sales person came out right away to talk to him. After this they go back to the dinner table and the real black father goes that is racism. Every time I step on a car lot, I get attacked by car salesmen too.

Yea, thats the one weird part. But a camera crew can pretty much make up any excuse for filming somewhere. Plus sometimes, they keep the camera at a distance so the non characters dont know a show is going on.

I haven't seen it, but here's an interesting take on the show, as written by a black woman.

Exactly, the black father tries to find racism in each and every thing that they do. The white father made it simple, if you go into a situation looking for racism, you'll most likely find it. Yesterdays episode, the white family went to a black church in makeup along with the black family not in makeup. The white family got all into it, they were dancing, raising their hand to god shouting along with the other ppl.....and the black family felt they were being phoney. Part of it was being phoney, but you cant help but have a fun time at a black church. And this is coming from former Jehovahs Witness who went to a church twice in my lifetime.

I stumbled across (yeah right) Tyra's America's Next Top Model last week and they had this white chick from Spring, Texas who is as racist as they come and doesn't even know it. She flat out says that Affirmative Action is crap (which I know there are even black folk that feel this way). The thing that got me is when this sista said that she's the only black girl that works in her Abercrombie and Fitch store and she thinks that's a problem. Well this white chick from Texas is like, "why would black people....she stopped, but she was going to say, why would/should black people want to work there? She said, "It would be like me going to apply for a job in a FUBU store." Of course you know that started some ish. Even the white girls couldn't believe she said that. The fact that she is only 18, I took her comments as a reflection of her upbringing (read: reflection of her parents) and she doesn't know any better.

I missed yesterday's episode, but after watching the first the only thing I could talk about was the black father.

Forshadowing 101: Black father says, "They (white family) will learn more from this experience than we will. They will see what black people go through every day."
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

                  Re: Black.White

I think the white parents are both incredibly stupid. The woman says some really dumb ****, a preview for later in the season has her saying "I though the word b!tch was a term of affection?"

I see that the black father goes out of his way to look for racism, but the white father goes out of his way to deny every single thing the black guy says. The truth is somewhere in the middle, they just had to get the two opposite ends of the spectrum(color and views on racism-wise) to make the show intriguing.

The black kid is useless as far as the show goes, I only saw the first episode, but he never talks or anything and only wants to get it over with. I don't blame him. The white girl has the best perspective on the whole thing. She isn't going out searching for racism or anything, she just wants the experience.

Interesting idea for a show. As far as the cameras go, there are so many reality shows out there now that they can pass it off as almost anything without giving away that the people are in make-up. You can write off anything the girl or boy does to an episode of MTV True Life. And it would be easy to make up a false context for following the adults around without releving that they are in makeup.

Yea, she spilled the beans and everyone was pretty open with her with their thoughts. One homosexual dude in denial, he snapped and told her he was disgusted and wanted to see her cry and she did cry. Later, they all went to her house and her and the homo dude made up. They all read poems to her and then.........the white mother ruined it. She started saying poems to all the kids there. She called one black chick a "beautiful black creature" and that pretty much killed the night.

I think it's ok to call it reality TV, I mean, it's not like they did it with claymation.

                              There all actors
Bruno is not Carmen's husband nor Rose's dad-Now Fox's explanation is that he's Carmen's "boyfriend", which is dubious as well. Bruno is an actor, not a "school teacher" who's acting credits on imdb date back to the 1980s! Rose was the star of a Disney Channel show 'Movie Surfers' and even has an official page on Disney:

                              http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/moviesurfers/

                              Bruno the "teacher"'s film credits

                              http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm0545969/

Their real names are Bruno Marcotulli, Carmen Wurgel (at least they got that one right!) and Rose Bloomfield. Given actors change their names all the time...

                              Drop your thoughts on this.

                              Peace,
