Re: A History of Violence
I thought this movie was done well, but it did feel a little short. I like Cronenberg as a director. Videodrome, Rabid, The Fly & Scanners are CLASSICS. Especially if your a horror/sci-fi fan like I am.
I will say the special effect of the guy lying face down in the diner was crazy...Comment

Re: A History of Violence
Just finished watching the movie. It wasn't bad, but I didn't think it was a great movie either. The violence was a little over done for my liking, but whatever.

The first 45 minutes of the movie were so strong too."Good music transcends all physical limits, it's more then something you hear, it's something that you feel, when the author, experience, and passion is real" - Murs (And this is for)Comment

I thought it was pretty odd that the bully gets mad at the kid for catching the ball. I mean, I understand they're trying to paint the kid as a bully, but seriously, catching a ball? Give me a break.

Re: A History of Violence
I was surprised with the nudity and sex in this film. Maria needs to shave her coochie. It's not often you see bottom nudity in mainstream Hollywood films. The angry sex in the stairs really caught me off guard.
I thought this was the type of film that could be 2hrs or more but it ended pretty early and suddenly too.
I liked the first 45 mins but not the last 45 mins.
I thought it was pretty strange for the bully to pick on the guys son because he caugh the baseball.Comment

Re: A History of Violence
Well, the two casting mistakes, one mentioned, one not:
William Hurt: terrible Philly mob boss accent....with the Amish look to boot.... just horrific (really? he was nominated? I didn't know that cause I don't follow that crap anymore)
Ed Harris: just so far under his ability and worth in a given picture..... could've been played by a lesser actor.
I agree with the criticisms already stated here......just a very jumbled, disconjointed storyline. I expected more, especially with the excellent beginning.Comment

Re: A History of Violence
This movie was wretched imo. Maybe I disliked it so much because I expected so much going in. But while the storyline had tons of potential, the acting was bad all around, except for Ed Harris (Viggo's character was just all over the place). The sex scenese were terrible and brought nothing to the movie. There was no ending, it just sort of trailed off with no conclusion.
It was easily the worst 13 bucks I've spent on a movie all year.Comment
