The Samsung pedestal DLP is one of the best 720p DLP's on the market. I had the non-pedstal version (HL-R5067W) and enjoyed it, but swapped it out after six months when I couldn't get a repair finished. A lot of guys here have Samsung DLP's as well.

Just make sure you don't see rainbows on DLP's. The "rainbow effect" is caused by the high RPM color wheel generating all three colors at once, as opposed to the three LCD chips that have dedicated colors. The effect is usually a flash of color when moving your eyes around the screen rapidly, or in high contrast areas (think a torch in a dark cave). If you see them, they may bother you ALL the time. They didn't really bother me, but now that I have the Sony SXRD, I realize that I saw them a lot more then I thought (especially during gaming w/ first person shooters).

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!

So its my understanding that DLP has an actual color wheel that spins at high RPM's wouldnt this be a disaster waiting to happen? I mean eventually the motor that spins the wheel is going to burn out for one reason or another, correct?

Not exactly...in fact the color wheel should last for thousands of hours. On rare occasions the bearings get worn out, but it's a simple repair (be sure to pick up a warranty, for bulb replacement if nothing else). If the color wheel starts to go you'll hear a high pitched whining sound, completely different from the normal "whirring" of the color wheel at start-up.

The housing is also completely enclosed so there's no risk of dust or dirt getting in there. Seeing the guy take the back of my old DLP was quite the eduational experience. They did a good job isolating the important optical parts from the fans.
