    Computer Help

    Okay

So for some reason when I was last on my comp, any time I tried to open any of my document folders or any other kind of programs besides mozilla, it wouldn't load at all.

I decided to reboot my computer, figuring it would correct whatever is wrong. Well now it won't load explorer at all. The computer boots fine, I can get in to my task manager and all that. That's how I was able to get on to AOL to post this was through there. For some reason Explorer isn't starting up when I boot my computer.

I am working with Windows XP

Anyone know what it could be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Too much porn?

This is the first step that I always try and usually doesnt work, but can you perform a system restore and get back to a point your computer was functional? Or have you ran a virus/spyware scan?

Yeah, how'd you know? I can't stop..... Grade A beastiality

Anyway.... I'm not exactly sure how to run the system restore? Just have to get my OS disc right?

I'm running a spyware scan right now on each name on this comp. if that doesn't work I guess I'll go ahead with the restoration if I can find the disc.

Ok, here's how to run system restore:
        1. Click start > run
        2. Type in msconfig
        3. Click on 'Launch System Restore'
        4. Once the screen pops up, click 'Restore my computer to an earlier time'
        5. Choose a date when your computer was working fine, then click next
        6. Your computer will now restart, allow a little time to complete the process
        7. When your computer restarts, there will be a popup stating if the restore was successful or not. If it was, click finish. If not, thats a different story.

yeah i inserted the system restore disc, was ready to run it until the message popped up that the windows on that disc is older than the version of have on my comp

Even though they are both xp. my comp crashed last summer and the people at the comp place i got it fixed at loaded their windows xp on it. it said i would lose all my files and settings if i continued.

I have alot of files I want to keep on this computer (yes bergie, a plethora of porn) so I kinda want to see if their is any other way to get it working.

you can get a run box through task manager, file>run

can you try file>run>explorer.exe or try what they mentioned above?

if you can browse at all through folders, etc. then the system restore program is here: C:Windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Sounds like you have a spyware problem.

I would download adaware from www.download.com and run that.

I would also download spybot and run that as well.

                        Thanks

I ran adware already though, I'll try spybot

Every time I try to run the Explorer extension through task manager the start bar will pop up for a split second and then it'll go back to the way it was.

Edit: Spybot didn't find anything new

I just called the place I took my comp to last time it went and they said it's probably going to need a system re-install.

I have my operating system disc right here, they said it'll be 100 bucks to do it plus another 30 for data recovery. At this point I don't care about what I lose on this computer as long as it starts working properly again.

Is it complicated to run a system reinstall or should I just fork the money over to them?

if you don't care about losing the data you can just put in the OS disc and reinstall easily by following instructions...you'd need a 2nd hard drive in order to back stuff up

well i guess i'll lose everything, better than paying another 130. none of it was vital, just media stuff.
