    24 Seasons 1-4 Discussion (Spoilers)

I know not everybody watching Season 5 has seen the other seasons, so I didn't want to drop any spoilers in the Season 5 thread.

If you somehow clicked on this thread even with the spoiler warning, this is your last chance to hit the back button before it's too late.

I'm all caught up on my 24 now. Thank god for DVD boxsets because I only started watching this season but was able to pick up all 4 seasons on DVD. I'm actually tired from my 24 viewing marathon. No commericals and having to wait a week for a new episode

    Here's some random thoughts:

    Season 1

    - The seaso got off to a great start with the twist on the plane. I'm sure all of you thought the guy was actually the "photographer" and the villian. Another great twist with Kim Bauer's friends "Dad" actually being a villian.

    - I knew Nina Myers was a villain before I watched this season. But even with that said, this was the best twist in 24 history and it will never be topped. They did a double bluff because near the beginning of the season Jack though Nina was a mole but he was wrong at the time.

    - Next to Nina Myers, Victor Drazen is the best bad guy in 24 history. He was a complete bad ***. I actually said out loud "oh ****" when he shot Mila right in the head.

    - My main man LDP showed up towards the end of the season, too bad he died.

    - The ending was great because it really showed how different 24 was when compared to other shows. The DVD had another ending where Teri survived.

    Season 2

    - Jack really changed after Season 1. He was more ruthless. He chopped a guys head off and used a terrorists children (pretended to kill one of them) to get intel.

    - I didn't know Sara Gilbert was on the show.

    - The whole cougar incident wasn't as bad as I thought. It only take up about 1/3rd of an episode. I'm amazed at how trouble she got into. Her character was really annoying.

    - George Mason went out on top. I was actually sad to see him go.

    - Too bad Marie Warner turned out to be a villian, she was cute.

    - This season had the biggest stakes, because not only was there a nuclear bomb storyline, but World War 3 might have happened if the US attacked.

    - I felt like the last 1/3rd of the season was disappointing. There was too much involving Sherry Palmer.

    Season 3

    - Awww the season where Kim worked at CTU.

    - I liked Chase Edmunds. He brought a different element to the show.

    - I can't believe he played Russian Roulette in jail and almost killed Chase later by pulling the gun in front of the Salazars.

    - The Salazer brothers were good 1st half villians. The 2nd half villian, Stephen Saunders, had a really nice back story. I liked it how it all connected to Jack's past.

    - I wonder what was the point of Season 2's cliff hanger, because the Palmer hand thing didn't even effect him this season.

    - I was actually sad to see Nina die. I'm I the only one that found Nina Myers attractive, especially with the longet hair?

    - Chappelle is the best annoying character in 24 history. I actually cracked up when he said he didn't really have any friends or family. At least he took one for the team once he got shot in the head by Bauer.

    Season 4

    - James Heller was a badass. He was still mouthing off the terrorists even though he was captured.

    - Another mole in Maryanne.............

    - I actually cheered once Tony came back to save Jack.

    - I didn't like Driscoll in the beginning but I felt bad for her once her daughter died.

    - LOL at Edgar wanting to interrogate one of the SOB's involved with the nuclear meltdown. I noticed whenever he picked up the phone, he said "Edgar Stiles". Chloe was really mean to him.

    - Chloe finally got involved in the action. She's got pretty good aim for a rookie.

    - I wonder what happened to Behrooz?

    - President Logan is an idiot and Palmer had to bail him out.

    - Manning kicked Mandy's *** and the bad guys in the office.

    - The weirdest part of the season was when Heller's son turned out to be gay. It just seemed really out of place. So according to the writers, the terrorists knew where James Heller would be because they met his son at a bar, went home for a threesome, and also got the info.

    ------------------------------------------

Overall I really enjoyed all 4 seasons. The extras were really lacking in Season 1, but 2,3, and 4 are jam packed with them. Brenda Walsh even does commentary on one of the episodes in Season 4.

I would rank the seasons like this:

    1. Season 1
    2. Season 3
    3. Season 4
    4. Season 2

I would group Seasons 1/3/4 really close together but Season 2 was a clear drop off.

Seems like there's a consensus that season 2 was the worst of them all.

Worst is harsh, as it was still very entertaining, but just not as action packed as the other 3(4 when you add season 5)

Re: 24 Seasons 1-4 Discussion (Spoilers)

Nice post. First episode I ever watched was Season 4. I watched all 3 seasons during Season 4 and then watched them again when my brothers wanted to see them. Having said that, here are my rankings

        1. Season 3: Without a doubt, my #1. I think it's 3 and then there's a dropoff. It was just that good a season. It started out slow (the first episode is commercial free and it seems like forever to finish). I remember finishing Season 2 and going right to 3 to see what happened to Palmer. After the first episode, I thought the season was going to be horrible. However, Jack being the bad guy at first + heroin problem was the best season out of him. I also think Saunders is the best terrorist out of all seasons. His plans and cause actually made sense and it was realistic for the most part. I also liked how not everything was saved by Jack. For example, the hotel being exposed with that virus. I loved this season and have watched it 2 times with a 3rd time being in and out.

        2. Season 2: I will admit that the last 8 to 10 episodes had very little action and dealt with the Cyprus recordings but that was still fascinating stuff. The first 12 episodes were really good with the whole nuclear weapon plotline.

        3. Season 4: I think this had the most action throughout, but I just wasn't a big Marwan fan. He does not look like a dangerous terrorist. I think it got alot better late in the season as well, but the whole Driscall-Jack fued got old after awhile. I was glad she left.

        4. Season 1: Even though this is last, it was still very entertaining to watch. However, too much time was focused on kidnapping of Teri and Kim. I thought Palmer helped transition from that. It doesn't help that DVDs of Season 1 are horrible. No menu page, can't skip chapters. I thought 1 was the worst.

Re: 24 Seasons 1-4 Discussion (Spoilers)

I finished watching Season one just a week or two ago, I'll be seeing season 2 this week and season 3 some time...although the first time I watched 24 on TV was season 4 but season 1 was very excellent IMO...several plot twists that were extremely unexpected. (no one said it, but when nina was known to jack as possibly being a mole later on in season 1 her killing that lady totally surprised me)

          So far, for me:

          Season 1
          Season 4
          Season 5
          Lifelong Bengals and Buckeyes fan...yeah...

I don't think so as far as season 2 being the "worst"....it's like picking who you love the least in your family.

Season 2 was probably my favorite to watch, I'm not sure. Then again, that's maybe because I was so intrigued by the nuclear storyline and the fact that Arabs were involved.

Re: 24 Seasons 1-4 Discussion (Spoilers)

Sorry for resurrecting a thread from 4 years ago.

We are on Season 5 right now and WOW! this show has been solid with seasons 1 - 4. I found season 2 to be lacking out of the first four seasons and had me lose interest a few times, yet trudged through. I think a lot has to do with everything that happened in season 1 and how were they going to top it, which they didn't imo.

Season 3 was unbelievable and very good from start to finish. Chase was a cool character and almost like a younger version of Jack Bauer. Too bad he never returned, unless he does later on which I'm only on season 5.

I felt like season 3 was the best, until we wrapped up season 4. Season 4 had me at the edge of my seat many more times than the third season. I enjoyed the CTU team much more in season 3 and things just felt out of place and unfamiliar the first few episodes with the changes that were made to CTU in season 4. Then seeing characters come back throughout the season was great, especially with President Palmer, Tony, Michelle to name a few. President Logan did get on my nerves the whole time and I wanted so every badly jump through my TV and strangle him. The whole terrorist threat was well done and a lot of the beliefs of Habib Marwan were so surreal as to how terrorists will take their own lives for their cause.

I have read some non-spoiler threads over time and people have complained that the show took a nose dive after season 3. Season 4 to me was solid and 5 has been great so far.

My ranking so far (S3 and S1 can almost run neck to neck for me):

              S4
              S3
              S1
              S2

I love TV on DVD, you can sit there and watch a few episodes at a time. Even better is that if there is a cliffhanger at the end of an episode, you don't have to wait till next week.
