    Teddy Geiger - Underage Thinking

WOW!!! I'm really surprised at how good the album is from start to finish. His music reminds me of John Mayer and a little bit of Gavin DeGraw.

Pretty amazing that he's only 16 years old.

    He's on Letterman tonight.

I'm about to give the CD a first listen as soon as I get done with the Augustana album. I'm expecting good things from Geiger, he has a nice sound and his single has some very Mayeresque moments. I just hope that he doesn't try to intentionally sound like him, that would be a huge turnoff. But, if he can somehow embrace what JM is able to pull off from a pop standpoint, and mold it into his own style, I think I could have another early contender for album of the year. So far it's been a very solid year, I hope his album doesn't disappoint.

By the way, according to his IMDB profile, he is 17.

    Too bad about Love Monkey.

So, after listening to the album, I gotta say that I see a lot less Mayer in his sound than I originally anticipated. In it's place, I see a lot more Josh Kelley. On the majority of the tracks, the two sound nearly identical. Not that this is a bad thing though, I've dug on Kelley for a long time. The CD isn't bad, but in the end, I don't see it standing up to the better works of this year. So far, out of the studio releases I've got in '06, I'd probably rank it somewhere naer the bottom. The good news? I've yet to hear a bad album this year. The bad news? He's nowhere near the level of talent that the likes of Shawn Mullins, Edwin McCain and Rhett Miller possess, who are ahead of him in terms of singer-songwriter releases this year. He's definitely got the potential to get there someday though, it's just not gonna happen with Underage Thinking.

I hate his single out right now. The chorus is horribly annoying and gets stuck in my head at weird times of the day.

I wish he'd crawl back under the rock he came from and never come back. [/end rant]
