    The Godfather Trilogy

I was wondering what everyone's thoughts and opinions are on the Godfather movies? I picked up the game this week and have been enjoying it. I think that The Godfather and The Godfather Part II are 2 of my top favorite movies ever released.

The first movie was good, but I feel like Part II surpassed the first movie by a little bit. I think what did it for me was with the telling of Vito Corleone's backstory as to how he left Sicily since the Don wanted him dead after they killed his father and came to America (NY) building an empire in the process. What made it more intriguing was as to how both Vito's past story intertwined with Michael's entry into the gambling organized crime business story. This could have been 2 movies.

The Godfather Part III, I feel was a disgrace to the great story that Mario Puzo and Francis Coppola wrote for the screenplays in Part I and II. It was lacking way too much imo. One thing, Robert Duvall should have been signed even though he was asking for a bit too much, but I think by then he really had cemented himself as great supporting actor to Al Pacino. George Hamilton just didn't do it for me in place of Duvall, and they had his son in the movie be a priest which was out there for me. Which lead to the catholic church and how much involvement the story had to do with the church.

Sofia Coppola should have never even graced the silver screen, she was so horrible. I just couldn't stand the love story between her and first cousin Andy Garcia who just showed up out of the blue being Sonny's bastard son. His plan was to take Al's position as the Don. Even Joe Montegna wasn't believable in his role as Joey Zasa. This could have been written so much better, and the only thing I liked at the end was the death of Michael when he passed away in the chair like his father in the first movie.

Usually the second movie in a trilogy sometimes stinks, but here it was the 3rd movie.

Godfather 1 and 2 both won Oscars for Best Picture. I think they are two of the greatest movies ever made. I didn't think it was necessary to make a third one.

The first movie was GREAT, but I agree that Part II was even better.

It was the backstory of Vito that really made this movie be that much better.

I read the only reason Part III was made is because Paramount lost so much money w/ Tucker that they figured GIII would make up for their losses.

I wish they never made the 3rd one, the story ruled "SUCKAGE". I think the whole catholic church/charity involvement and Vincent/Mary love story really brought the movie down.

The Godfather (I & II) was a rarity for me, as it actually met the hype.

When I finally got around to watching them, I went in thinking there was no way they could be as good as advertised. After seeing them, I thought they were the best films I'd ever seen.

Part III I think was probably decent, but it's crap compared to I & II...

You want to know something incredible? I've never seen so much as a minute of any of the Godfather movies. Never felt inclined to either. And I probably never will. Alright, I'm done.

I think the ending in Godfather I is better than the ending in Godfather II, imo.

The Godfather I & II go down in my top 10 movies of all time.

I agree with most of what has been said. Godfather I's ending is classic, better than II. But II is the better movie. Seeing the history as well as the family moving forward with Michael as the head is a nice dual story.

Also, III isn't a bad movie, it just isn't a Godfather. By any other name it would be a decent movie, not Best Picture worthy by any means, but it wouldn't get hated nearly as much. A dissappointment to the Godfather name, but still a decent movie.

I wound up seeing Godfather I and II after reading the novel... I really liked how Godfather II delved into how Don Corleone morphed into the Godfather, from humble beginnings, just like in the book. I saw parts of the third one, but quickly saw that it sucked.

I'm not the biggest fan of the movies. In fact I haven't watched a single movie all the way through. That's not to say I don't like it but that I just can't get into it. My sister loves the trilogy tho. I remember she used to spend whole days watching all three movies.

You should really try to watch the first 2 movies all the way through. Their a piece of art.

I unfortunately haven't seen any of them. And I'm italian to boot... I'll probably wind up getting the trilogy on DVD from Best Buy in a couple weeks. I've been wanting to see them for a long time, but never really got around to it.
