    No, its not coincidence.

Same with cell phones, iPods, laptops, etc. Let it die completely and then fully charge. Otherwise it will develop a memory.

I'd heard about that and looked up on it - I learned that that's apparently not the case anymore - that's with old batteries. However, I could have been misinformed.

      Can anyone prove this theory?

That's just a bit more than I would like to spend.

I've got no problem with Macs, but it is a bit expensive for me, and most of my digital music collection has been purchased with Napster.

And my uncle (who happens to be helping with the cost) doesn't care for Macs.

I'm going to check out some Dells at the Dell kiosk in my local mall one of these days. That should help me with my decision, because feel and comfort are a lot more critical (and difficult to upgrade) with a laptop as opposed to a desktop.

Thanks for the great advice everyone, keep it coming if you have more!

Its not really the brand u wanna buy but it is the specifications you wanna look for. This what I recommend: 512MB or 1GB SDRAM( shared memory) 60GB of hard drive memory( make sure you get an external hard drive just in case your hard drive crashes...make sure that the external hard drive is twice the memory of the hard drive that comes with the computer) Pentium 4 processor 2.8 ghz. A year subscription of Norton's Internet Security and Antivirus, and Microsoft Office( thats for your powerpoint presentations and your spreadsheet assignment). Thats what I recommend(i'm a pc informations major)!!!

I know I want 1 GB of ram, around an 80 GB hard drive, XP Pro, and discrete graphics.

Other than that, I'm not real picky about specs. We get free Norton corporate edition antivirus, and I will buy Office later down the road at a student discounted price.

Ok, I've been pricing out some Dells and I have a quick question:

Am I going to notice a big difference between the Core Duo 1.66 GHz and the 1.83 or 2 GHz? Is it worth the extra $100 for 1.83 or $300 for 2?

Check out Acers website. Some people may not be high on the brand name, but they're pretty quality computers. I'm in Australia right now (a Canadian) and picked up a great deal at a local store to take advantage of the exchange rate. I go an Acer Aspire 1640, 2.0 gzh, it has a 100 gig HD, a gig of ram, a dual layer DVD writer, a decent 64MB video card, wireless network card, all that stuff. Its a great system. It ran me 1799 Australia, or 1288 US.
