    Big Love

Does anyone else watch this show?

The first episode was a huge bore, which isn't the greatest way to start a television series completely character driven.

But over the past couple episodes the show has taken a turn for the better. All I can say is I feel pretty bad for children born in to polygamy. And what kind of woman would want to get involved with it?

I watch it. It reminds me of "Desperate Housewives" which snared the wife and I during reruns last summer. At least it won't face cancellation on HBO like "Book of Daniel", which the radical right drove off of NBC after three episodes.

Pretty decent and surreal. I just wish the creators didn't focus so much on Bill Paxton's arse. I know the creators are gay, but they have three female leads who would look good nude...show them naked! Not sweaty man ***.

*EDIT: I find it funny that Tina Majorino (Deb from "Napolean Dynamite") is in this show as a devout Mormon. Since "Napolean" was a Mormon creation, and "Big Love" is radical 19th century Mormonism, I guess Tina just got typecast as the supporting female Mormon role.*

I don't care for this show period, but my wife does.

Yeah I thought that was funny as well.

I was pissed off when Book of Daniel was cancelled. I thought that was a great show. I'm really hoping a premium channel like HBO/Showtime will pick it up. I know Aidan Quinn was at the Sopranos premiere part, so who knows.

I liked the wolf metaphor at the end of the show last night.

I really got into this show during that HBO Free Preview a couple weeks back, it looked as if it would be a winner.

Random question quasi related to this thread....
Whenever you see Jeanne Tripplehorn do you think of her sex scene in Basic Instinct with Michael Douglas?

I do, and in the show she's a pretty decent MILF. As I mentioned though, they just like Bill Paxton showing skin (or wearing sheer underwear like last night).

I've watched two episodes...didn't like it. Good thing HBO is bringing Carnivale back (even if it's a movie this time).

Haven't seen it, but the complains I've heard about it here in my city make me want to check it out. We don't call Gilbert, Southern Utah for nothing.

Actually the radical right didn't kill the Book of Daniel although there was some barking about it from the religious right of course. The truth is The Book of Daniel was a boring show that got low ratings and was sentenced to near certain death on the wasteland of no-one-watches-Friday-nights. I'd think you guys would know by now that if something is successfull and sells it doesn't matter how much people try to complain about it or get it banned/killed (witness GTA, pr0n and every other "sinful" thing that brings in the $$$). If anything the religious right complaining about it got it a few more people interested enough to check it out (i.e. me, LOL)

As for Big Love I've got 3 episodes recorded to watch this weekend so i'll check back in when I've viewed em!

No, it was killed by the so-called "family" groups. The fact that it was on the black hole of primetime (Friday night) just made it easier for NBC to kill it. The show was only going to be six or seven episodes anyway, they should have just aired them. I mean the audience had to be there since NBC.com did air the remaining episodes via streaming WMV.

Also, since you reference the idea that publicity brings viewers, then how do you explain "Arrested Development"? The show was praised far and wide, was on Tuesday nights, and yet died a slow, painful death. And it was FUNNY! Instead people tune into crap like "Yes, Dear" and "Everybody Loves Chris" (not to mention anything on WB or UPN).

Yeah it scares me that the pure excriment that CBS puts on the air for sitcoms some how become and remain popular for prolonged periods of time. Yet Fox has perhaps the best sitcom to come along since Cheers and no one watches it. My best guess is when you actually need to have some knowledge of current events greater than that covered by Star Magazine, Enterntainment Tonight, and Access Hollywood that the average American is too afraid to watch.

Well I disagree simply because I never in my life have met anyone who has said "Well I guess i'm not going to watch such and such show because family group inc. said it was a bad show to watch". I think the power of those groups are completely overrated, again like I said, great products with "bad" things in them such as GTA, movies, tv shows, whatever, still succeed even when family groups and lawyers continuously attack and try to silence them.

Well mainly because Arrested Development was never controversial and garnered the same type of negative publicity that would make people tune in to see what the fuss was all about. The show was praised far and wide but I think it was a show that was too intelligent for most people in that alot of the show you had to think some and there was no laugh track.

It's one of my alltime favorite shows so I am sad to see it didn't catch on but I think overall the American public simply likes dumbed down comedies for the most part, like "Yes, Dear"...it's a perfect example of a generic successful comedy that is really amazing it continues to succeed. I watch it on occasion and I just don't see how it's still on tv other than the main wife on there is kinda hot.

One big problem with Fox shows in general is they move them all over the place, pre-empt them for football or other sports, have them disappear for weeks on end and in general do not really promote them unlike CBS and the other networks. A show needs to be stable and constant in order to gain an audience and Fox still has yet to learn that.
