Anyway, I dont know how to explain other than in my room (has a wireless router) my computer says I have an internet connection, but nothing works (aim, winmx or websites) in my sisters room, I dont know if it says she has a connection or not, but her internet is down as well. Her room has the main hookups. On the cable box hook up thing I can tell its not going to work because the box has "Pc link" and "internet" with two blinking lights. Usually most if not all the lights on the box are solid and lit up when its working normally. If I turn the power off and restart the cable box it will *sometimes* kick in and things will work, but it doesnt last for long. somewhere between 2 seconds and about 20 minutes it'll automatically stop working. I dont know what the problem is.

Re: computer/internet help (for comcast)
ok... how you explained it is really confusing but if I understand you, here goes. It sounds like the cable modem is hooked onto a cable outlet that isnt one of the strongest signals in the house. Basically, whenever the cable enters your house, it is split off the main wire with several cable splitters... the higher up on the splitter chain, the stronger the signal. THe lower on the chain, the weaker the signal. Probably what will end up happening is that Comcast will have to come out and rework your splitters (not to worry, really quite simple). To troubleshoot this, you can try the modem at various cable outlets in the house and see if it works but they will have to test to see which one is the actual strongest.Originally posted by MagicBucsWsoxFanOK im posting this at work, but as soon as I get home tonight im going to call comcast if I cant solve this problem

Re: computer/internet help (for comcast)
Sounds like you are getting a weak signal. Call Comcast, and when they come out tell them what you told us. Tell them you want a direct line to your house, the guy I had was a gamer and totally understood. Ran a dedicated cable line from the box to my house and straight into my modem. I get blazing speeds off Comcast now. My last speed check was 10.25 megs down and 8.5 megs up.Comment

Re: computer/internet help (for comcast)
im not a computer wiz obviously, but is this also possible without the wireless router? The computer in my sisters room which doesnt have anything wireless also doesnt work. It just seems more technical because everything worked fine for so long then all of a sudden its crapping out. I can tell when its not going to work because the lights on the box are flashing instead of "solid" but all i can do is turn the power off entire power cord off which restarts everything (the comp, the cable box and the dlink) and like 1/5 times about it fixes the problem, but only for a few minutes and then all a sudden everything resets and the cable box is just blinking again.Originally posted by gschwendtok... how you explained it is really confusing but if I understand you, here goes. I was thinking this could be caused by someone else trying to use the feed off my wireless connection but I mean its like this all day, and also would something like that effect my sisters room too which doesnt have a wireless router?Comment

Re: computer/internet help (for comcast)
Wireless doesnt have anything to do with it if the modem isnt getting hte full signal (ie not all lights are coming on). If it does this on all outlets in the house, then very possible that hte modem has died and needs to be replaced. When you call Comcast, they can do troubleshooting measures from their spot.Originally posted by MagicBucsWsoxFanim not a computer wiz obviously, but is this also possible without the wireless router? Re: computer/internet help (for comcast)
ok well durring my lunch break I messed around with my computer a litle bit and got it working for 20 minutes (and was working when I left) by changing my internet connection (changing it from I forgot what it was, to *home* connection) SO it worked for longer than it has in a while, so we'll see if it works when i get home and throughout the night.Comment
