    720p or 1080i

I have a high-def 50' widescreen LCD that supports 720p and 1080i. Do you guys notice a difference between the 2 and by the way what the hell does the p and i stand for. Thanks

someone please correct me if i am wrong, but i beleive the p is for progressive, and the i is for interlaced.

720p is better. I'll let others fill you in on as to why, cause i dont know enough to give you a good answer

Bacardi is correct on what the p and i stand for.

1080i vs. 720p is a long standing debate. I honestly can't tell the difference. Supposedly, 720p is better for live action: http://ezinearticles.com/?Eye-Candy?...80p?&id=123148

My rule of thumb, is whichever is native to your tv is gonna be the best. Simply b/c you're eliminating the need for up or down converting.

Yeah, according to anything I've ever seen, the two are very comparable. 1080i is actually better for normal viewing where 720p is better for live action sports and such.

Exactly. Just set it to the native resolution of your TV.

Hate to ask a stupid question but how do you know what the native resolution of your tv is.

You could check the specs online. That should tell you.

However, in most cases a CRT's native resolution is 1080i and a fixed pixel display (DLP, LCD) is 720p.
