Re: Mission Impossible Movies
I love the first one....thank god they've finally come out with an anamorphic DVD of it. Unfortunately, the studio felt like nobody understood the "complex" plot of the first one and they dumbed down the second one, which I didn't like very much at all.
Hopefully the 3rd one will be less of a popcorn movie and more of an intelligent black ops movie like the Bourne Identity movies, but it's looking like a Summer popcorn flick from what I've seen.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: Mission Impossible Movies
Both sucked, following the typical Tom Cruise formula of "arrogant guy faces tragedy, life-changing event or injustice that forces him to right a wrong and become honorable and give a sh*t about someone besides himself."
Top Gun
Days of Thunder
Far and Away
All the Right Moves
Cocktail
Jerry Maguire
Both Mission Impossible movies
Rain Man
The Color of Money
Young Guns
The Firm
A Few Good Men
He played basically the same role in all of those movies. Only his wardrobe and the set changed in each.
Seriously, what Cruise movie hasn't followed that formula other than "Risky Business," "Born on the Fourth of July" and "Minority Report," which were about the only good movies that guy ever has been in? "Vanilla Sky" and maybe "War of the Worlds," I guess.
Cruise is the most overrated actor in Hollywood, by far. The guy can't act his way out of a paper bag and is typecast beyond belief.
Take care,

Re: Mission Impossible Movies
From IMDB....
Trivia for Young Guns (1988):
Tom Cruise was disguised with a mustache and is hiding behind the barricades on the street during the shootout.
For this role, he didn't appear in the credits and appears credited on IMDB as simply, "Cowboy." I hate that Tom Cruise. Always typecast as the guy wearing the fake mustache hiding behind barricades.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

I don't like Tom Cruise, but I liked the first 2 movies since I was a big fan of the show.Comment

Re: Mission Impossible Movies
Oops: I f*cked up on "Young Guns." But Cruise is typecast in every one of those other movies on my list.
Bottom line: The guy has incredibly limited range as an actor. He's a popcorn-movie box-office draw, nothing more. The acting equivalent to a pop sensation like Britney Spears or Kelly Clarkson.

I guess I am the only one who thinks Tom Cruise is a very good actor. I thought he was great in Collateral, and Minority Report.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

He has been a typecast stiff in just about every one of his other pictures. Cruise has no range -- the dude plays the same type of character in nearly every movie, just like Bruce Willis.

Re: Mission Impossible Movies
Does it really matter which kind of movie an actor stars in? Seriously, if the actor does a good job and the movie is good then what does it matter if he only does action movies?
Also, War of the Worlds wasn't really an action movie, but yet I thought it was really good, and I thought tom cruise did an excellent job in it. It was one of the best movies i've seen in some time.Comment
