    Mozilla Thunderbird - old e-mails keep appearing in inbox

    ok so everytime I open Thunderbird, 117 old messages from January or so appear in my inbox. AFAIK this is a fairly common problem but I haven't found any advice as far as fixing it goes. Anyone have a solution?

      there should be an option to "delete email from server once downloaded". what's happening is you're getting the email but it's still on the server so when you log back in you get the same darned email. it'll continue to happen until you find that option.

          I empty my trash every time I close the program...

          funny because this is the first time in a year that I've been using the program that this has happened.

              well I used to work for an ISP and this was a common problem...the advice I gave you is what we told people to do (back then Eudora was the email program of choice) so you may just want to search around in the options for something similar to what i describe as it may not be specifically called that..

                      so when I delete the messages from my inbox, then click on another folder and back on Inbox, they reappear.

                      I'm searching for the "popstate.dat" file now which according to one website could be the problem.

                          should I delete the "inbox" file in my mail folder? deleting popstate.dat didn't help.
