Re: new Goo Goo Dolls cd on the 25th
I always like Goo Goo Dolls... I dont listen to many of their songs, but I wish I did. I'm gonna have to grab some more songs from them. They've always got sort of catchy tunes but their always good.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? I like their older stuff, I really didn't like Better Days much at all. Something about it I guess, but I would always switch it off the radio. I'll listen to the new album before I get it to make sure they don't all sound like Better Days. I really songs of thiers like Name, Slide, Iris, Sympathy, Naked, etc..

Re: new Goo Goo Dolls cd on the 25th
The Goo Goo Dolls are a guilty pop pleasure of mine, although I sometimes wonder what the band really could have been.
Living in upstate N.Y., I remember hearing about a band from Buffalo in the early 90s that was whispered to be the "next Replacements." And Johnny Rzeznik certainly wrote Westerberg-like lyrics in some of the Goos early stuff, with songs to match.
But then "Iris" struck gold, the Goos became a staple of teen girls crying over lost love at age 14 and a fixture on pop radio. The band never has turned back, as its standard pop formula of clever hooks, intelligent lyrics for pop and a ballad or two have made it a ton of money.
So, yeah, the Goos turned to intelligent, power pop instead of being the intelligent rock band it could have been. But give the Goos credit -- the band does smart power pop as well as anyone and is a good listen when you're in the mood for that.
Take care,

Good album. If you like the music they have already put out, then you'll probably enjoy the new album.Comment

Counting Crows, sans This Desert Life
Toad the Wet Sprocket, Glen is a much more gifted songwriter than Rzeznik
The first two studio records Rob Thomas recorded, pre-Mad Season
SR-71 has drifted away from mainstream radio, but continue to put out excellent music
The first three Live albums, especially Secret Samadhi
Athenaeum and Collapsis didn't put out a bad album, and Mike Garrigan continues to be magnificent
Of course, any of the albums from Collective Soul
Oleander also released three superb major label albums
There have been some excellent recent power pop releases from The Academy Is... and The Fray
Anything Ben Folds has released, be it solo or with Robert and Darren
David Ryan Harris has done some amazing work on his own and with the short-lived Brand New Immortals
Sister Hazel also hasn't released a bad album
Suburban Love Junkies from Birmingham are also brilliant songwriters and performersLast edited by BGarrett7; 04-23-2006, 02:03 PM.Comment

I have "obtained" it, yes. It's a Goo Goo Dolls' album -- slicky produced power pop with catchy hooks and nothing that really grips me as incredible or memorable. Still, easy on the ears and not a bad listen.
Take care,
