Trust... this album isn't spiritual... only those songs really. Lateralus is their only album since AEnima... dunno what the other album you are speaking of is unless you mean this one...Comment

I am not a big fan of Tool's music, and don't really like their newest album much.
They are an acquired taste I never acquired I guess.Enjoy football? Enjoy Goal Line Blitz!Comment

"I think for me, and this is just personally, the last few years have really been crushing, for me as an artist, I needed to see on some level if speaking my mind would actually inspire people - you see the sky falling and you feel like you've got to say something. I think on Aenima and Lateralus, lyrically, I had this idea of trying to share things and push some kind of higher purpose - enlightenment, this global consciousness thing - and everything that's been going on nowadays has kind of left me a little disappointed, a little bummed. So I think on this album I've talked more about my personal stuff, things thats I need to get off my chest. It's a little cynical and its almost like coming from a sad place - expressing some very big sadness thats from the gut" -Maynard/2006Comment

Re: Tool - 10000 Days
I've read some people think that the leak is a hoax, as are the album title and cover. There is a theory that what leaked is actually Lateralus b-sides with the new single being the only real track. Seems a little elaborate to me, you believe any of it?Comment

Re: Tool - 10000 Days
I don't.... But i can def see where they are coming from. If you listen to the single, Vicarious, the drumming is REALLY aggressive. Only one other track on the entire album with drumming nearly as aggressive and that is the track right after it, Jambi. I can def see where they can think that, because the album really does tone down after those two tracks as far as aggression goes. The music as a whole, not just the drumming is REALLY aggressive on those two tracks. All along we had heard how this was going to be the heaviest album Tool had ever released. After listening to the first two tracks that promise seemed to be being fulfilled, but after that it went atmospheric. I think it is the real deal... just too much of a hassle to go through everything Tool went through if it is an elaborate hoax.Comment

I work at K-Mart and we got the ads in for the week of 5/2, and Tool's CD is in there as 10,000 Days with the same cover art, so if they're trying to pull a fast one, they let no one else know about it, which I'm sure would piss off alot of retailers who are trying to advertise the album. I'm sure that Tool really doesn't give a crap if they piss off retailers or not, but it seems to be another sign that it is the actual release.
I do kind of believe that the version that leaked may not be the final product though. Possibly not mastered or whatever.
I hope it is a hoax though. It's not like 10,000 Days sounds at all like a B-Sides album, it's quality stuff. With as long as it takes to get new material from Tool, to get two albums of new material all at once would be great.Co-Commish of the OS Vets I & II

Re: Tool - 10000 Days
Someone pointed out that, as seen in TimmeH's avatar, that it could actually be read as "fool" on the cover. Weak argument, but I thought it would be funny if it were true.
Other things I've heard are the obvious references to Pink Floyd with the song titles having Part 1 and Part 2 and other things, apparently playing on the frequent comparisons to Pink Floyd. Some people who have heard the leak think it sounds unfinished in places as eXperiment pointed out, only a couple of tracks are really aggresive and such.
Also, I read all about how protective the band was when playing the CD to critics for pre-release reviews. They said the band themselves(probably not all of them) would sit in the room which the album was playing, and would take the CD with them when it was finished. I think they didn't send out any advanced copies to further avoid leakage. Seems slightly curious that they would go through all of that hassle and still let the album slip through the cracks. If you don't send out advanced copies and ensure that all pre-release listenings are completely controlled, how does it get out?
I also read that they like to screw with their fans and even floated a fake title for Lateralus.
I don't have much interest in the album, but this is a pretty interesting thing to me. If they could actually pull of a hoax, it would be amazing.
Like TimmeH said, I think the cover art and title are probably set, but they could probably have fooled some people with a fake leak.Comment

Re: Tool - 10000 Days
Well the part 1/2 thing had to do with not wanting an 18 minute song on the album. They split it 6-n-change and 11-n-change. It really is one song, but it has a point that would make a good cutoff for the two so they did it. I would also love if it were a hoax... twice the tool would ****in rock.
Even to people who don't like rock/metal.... You have to listen to Wings For Marie / 10,000 Days (Wings Part 2) ATLEAST once. That song really does transcend genres. It is a HIGHLY emotional track that is so well done it isn't even funny.Comment

I'm pretty sure the radio station I'm at has the final release of the album. I'll poke around this week but our Metal Director probably has it at the moment for review.Comment
