Question about Podcasting/RSS Feeds

I am planning to start podcasting my talk show but, i know nothing about podcasting and I was tried google but, all the sites I found didn't exactly help me and some of the sites were talking about rss feeds. Well, I am new to all this podcasting and rss feeds so, can someone help me in terms of what i need to know and do?

A few steps:

1. You need a microphone. Either use an external one -- a $10 unit works just as well as a $100-dollar model. I used the microphone built into my laptop when I did a podcast, and it worked fine.

2. You need recording software. I recommend Audacity. It's free, and it's excellent. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

3. You need a host. I found, through trial and error, that most of the free hosting sites suck. They don't offer much space and have other limitations. I used Liberated Syndication, which provided me all the space I needed for $5 per month. http://libsyn.com

Once you have all this, you simply record your show as an MP3 file and upload it to your host. Libsyn explains everything. It's really easy.

I also suggest that you get a description of your show placed at iTunes, Podcast Alley and other major podcast search engines. Word of mouth only goes so far to promote your show -- you need to pimp yourself!

also see what space your internet company gives you, most likely it wouldn't be enough, but it could depending on how many shows you want to archive

I have audacity and love that program. I use that to put my demos together. I believe I can use my internet providers service (COX) but, I also have a blog and was thinking about using a blog for a little while until I can make a website that I am happy with. I will look into libsyn though too.

I should I start now putting descriptions of the show out now or wait till I actually have everything in place?

1. I would wait until your podcast is live and available to promote it.

2. If you're going twice per week, you'll probably need an outside host, depending on the bitrate at which you record.

3. RSS feeds are easy to get. If you use Firefox (and if you don't, why the hell not?!!!), look for sites with an orange square in the URL window or in the bar at the bottom of the browser. Those sites have RSS feeds.

Firefox lets you click on those orange squares and add an RSS feed directly, but I prefer the Firefox extension Sage. It's easier to organize and use than the built-in RSS function in Firefox.

A great feature of Sage is that you can go to a site, open Sage in the left panel and hit the magnifying glass icon, and Sage will find all of the RSS feeds at that site. You can simply click on any of them to subscribe, open Sage every morning and click a button to get all of the new feeds.

Yeah, I am kinda leaning towards an outside host because my main goal is to have an actual website to run everything.

and lol, no way RSS is easy. I was googling like crazy and couldn't understand half the stuff, some sites I visit and i click the orange live thing...(live bookmark) It doesn't work or am I doing something wrong?

I use Firefox...no way would I use IE. I got a rss feed thing from firefox, I never saw a thing called Sage. I have a thing called inforss.
