    XBox 360 Sound question.

I just recently found my Monster Digital Optical audio cord that I used back when I had my old PSII.

My question is this, I just bearly today realized there is a connection for that on the back of the 360 (right on the back of the AV plug that goes into the 360).

Right now I have my component cables connected to my TV, but the second part with the audio connections is connected directly to my surround sound receiver.

I have the digital optical cable now connected to my receiver. What is the exact improvement I am supposed to hear with that dedicated audio cable?

Do I go into my 360 menu and change something in the audio settings?

Someone more inclined in these areas, could you possibly explain some of this stuff to me.

    Thanks in Advance.

The digital optical cable allows you to hear the games in true Dolby Digital.

As far as the hookup, I'm doing the exact same thing. I have the digital optical cable I used to use with my PS2. The only change I made on the 360 was to go into console settings, Audio, and make sure it's on Dolby surround. I'm not sure if it will choose that by default. Like Dave said, you should be able to hear games in 5.1 surround sound once you hook that up.
