I've never had to accept a EULA while installing XP before.

Do you have an earlier version of windows that you can use to install through DOS (perhaps a boot disk is needed)? You can install that version first, then immediately install XP SP2 right on top.

Re: urgent help:installing windows xp/sp2 throush msdos

So he puts the XP CD in, reboots, runs through the blue setup screens and can't hit F8? I don't get it....

Regarding DOS and trying to install, it's somewhat complicated and I wouldn't recommend it at all. There are so many easier ways to do this, but I don't really understand what exactly the problem is.

Anyhow, here goes. First you need a copy of SMARTDRV and an MS-DOS floppy WITH CD-Rom Support.

        1. Restart the system with the MS-DOS floppy.

        2. Type "C:" (or wherever you have your SMARTDRV utility at)

        3. Type "SMARTDRV" (Loads SmartDrive to memory installing Windows XP. On successfully loading, it will just display a blank line. You can type SMARTDRV again and it should show you the status.

        4. Enter the CD-ROM drive letter (should've displayed when MS-DOS was starting).

        5. Type "CD\I386" (Windows XP Setup folder)

        6. Type "WINNT" (Starts the DOS install program).

Just follow the XP directions from this point on.

Nope. The ESC key only works with Windows 95/98. Doesn't work on new versions of windows (2000/XP).

You could've tried common passwords that you would've entered or even a blank one if you think you skipped through the password field too fast. There are utilities on the internet that can reset a password, but they don't always work and sometimes mess up the OS.
