TheDigitalBits.com got one and did mini reivews of some of the movies. Basically, they couldn't tell much of an upgrade. There's an upgrade, but not worth the money from the sounds of it. I have ZERO interest in it.

LOL, I was about to click on this thread and saw that EG had responded. I thought for sure you had taken the plunge.

I'll be getting one, but not until either the format war is decided, or there's a universally compatible (Blu-Ray & HD-DVD) player. But I'm an audio/videophile who can detect minute improvements in sound and video, so it is worth it to me to spend the money to upgrade.

However, I would bet that for non-audio/videophiles, current-gen DVD is more than good enough.

Btw, early reports are that the HD-DVD players are flying off the shelves. Although nobody's sure how many of those purchases are going up on eBay instead of into home theater rooms, and nobody knows how large the initial supply shipment was. It may be a case of the initial shipment being low enough to guarantee that retailers could say, "They're so hot, all the ones we got are gone already!" to build up demand.

That'll probably change in a few weeks.

BTW, I hate your avatar..it freaks me out.

What's the craze with this HD-DVD stuff? I haven't heard too much about it except for gaming systems, what exactly does it do/enhance?

            its DVDs....in hi Def......

kidding, previously dvd's were only standard defintion (480, i think), and even the upconversion players didn't display truly 720p or 1080i pictures, just something slightly better looking than 480. Now these players show dvd's truly in HD, but unfortunately you gotta restart your dvd collection. The players do play regular dvd's, just not in HD. I might pick up the add on to the 360 eventually (especially if its just $100) but I have zero interest in this as well right now.

              Ahh.

I'll put $20 down on my dad getting one before the year is up. :y4:

I'm going to wait for the format war first before I take the plunge.

Either way, I'm not going to rebuy my DVD collection just so I can have them in HD-DVD or Blue-Ray.

I can assure you, I won't buy either format. DVD is fine with me.
