    Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam's new album bluntly titled Pearl Jam releases this coming Tuesday (May 2nd). The band (crazy as this sounds) has a music video for their single "World Wide Suicide" (found here) and also have a clip of a session on Amazon's front page. Both songs sound like they're off of VS/Vitalogy which is good to hear. Anyway, who all is picking up the new album next week?

I've had the album sitting on my HD for the past couple of days and haven't even went as far as to open the folder, that should tell you how deeply-rooted my interest is in the release.

I thought if I actually had it it would pique my interest enough to actually give it a listen.

        Apparently I was wrong.

Here's their listing on Amazon: Link.

The page has a video clip of the song "Life Wasted."

I think that I'm going to be buying the new album. I think that Pearl Jam has real matured musically the last few years.

I guess I have an ear for music much inferior to BGarrett's, because I love Pearl Jam, always have, and always will. I will be the first in line to purchase this album on May 2nd, and will probably listen to it straight through as soon as I open it.

BGarrett....I don't get you, bro. You shrug this album off in such a way that it seems that you're looking down your nose at anyone who would polute their ears with such rubbish. If you have no interest in listening, why even download it? Why not just say, "Yeah, I'm not that interested"?

In other words, why are you consuming such a healthy dose of...

I broke down a couple nights ago and downloaded it even though I said I wouldn't. I loved it instantly. Been listening to it alot the last couple days, and been enjoying it.

I'll be picking it up on Tuesday.

I have it preordered from the website. Supposedly through the website you get some extras like drm free downloads and a live performance or something. I am not too sure of the details.

I don't hate Pearl Jam. Very far from it, actually. Check out either of the links I have to my iTunes library in my sig. There's 266 PJ songs there, including some live shows, the entire studio catalog, and both compilations. That doesn't even include about nine or ten official bootlegs that I don't even have imported, and probably just as many unofficial ones that also haven't been imported. I love Pearl Jam, always have. But, honestly, I've sorta drifted away from them in recent years -- specifically since Riot Act came out and just didn't quite catch my attention. I listened to it time and time again, and it just never sunk in. It's odd because their two previous non-critical darling albums, No Code and Yield are my favorites from them, and Riot Act also just sorta came and went a lot like them.

And how you somehow got the impression that I was trying to say my musical tastes were too superior for new Pearl Jam, or that I was in someway "too good" for the album, I really don't know. Perhaps you can shed some light onto that opening statement for me.

How am I casting the album away and acting like I am too good for it? If I were completely uninterested in it, I wouldn't have even sought it out to download, or actually download. With some albums, it just takes me some time to get around to them, and that could very well be the case with this one. Obviously there is some part of me that wants to hear the new album, otherwise I wouldn't have acquired it. This is a band that I've got a long, impressive history with. There are very few artists out there that I enjoy and have spent as much time listening to over the past decade-plus as I have with Pearl Jam, and believe me, there has been a lot of time spent over those years just listening to albums for hours on end. I am hardly ruling this album out as being a bad one, or one that isn't worthy of my time. I'll probably import it over the next couple of days and try to listen to it, but if I don't, it will be there for me to come back to when the time is right. The timing just doesn't seem right at the present.

In fact, I do have an interesting story about their SNL performance. Recall how I said that I've sorta drifted away from them in recent times. Well, after watching their two performances on SNL, it made me yearn for some PJ in my diet. And I have been listening to some of the "older" stuff the past couple of days trying to build myself up into the new album. The problem is, I'm still having trouble letting myself fall into it. I don't know why, it seems like I can't even make myself interested in this release. Maybe it's just because of the other albums I'm anticipating on May 5th -- new Glen Phillips and Angie Aparo -- while still having an ear for stuff like Mat Kearney's new one. I just don't know.

But believe me, I am certainly not thumbing my nose at this release because I anticipate not liking it, it's that the timing just isn't right.

                        You Get:

                        1. The Album(Obviously, right? Well, the rub is that they shipped out the 26th, so, depending on where you are, there's a good chance you might get it a few days early!)

                        2. The Ability to Download a DRM-free version of the album at midnight eastern time May 2nd(Only of importance to people who, like me, don't listen to leaks, don't illegally download from files sites or services-I like waiting for true CD, non-compressed quality "official" versions, so much so I might not even download the "official" downloads at that time)

                        3. A CD of Pearl Jam's 1992 New Years Eve Show at the Academy Theater, never before released

Rolling Stone reviewed it, giving it 4 stars and calling it the best album they've released in 10 years. I'm a huge PJ fan, not really into the first single, but still really looking forward to the album. I will be there on my lunch break next Tuesday picking it up and it won't leave my CD player for a while after. I think Riot Act was a terrific album, but I hope they managed to surpass it with the new one, and most indications are that they have done just that.

Re: Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam

I've had it since last weekend. It's not a bad record. It's the kind of record that didn't blow me away upon first listen but has improved upon further listens.

There's nothing on the record that made me sit up and say, "Holy f*ck, what an amazing song or riff," but there also doesn't seem to be any filler on the album. It's not a classic, but it's a solid album from start to finish from one of America's last remaining straight-ahead rock bands that defies niche labels such as "pop-punk," "garage," "indie" or "alternative."

Pearl Jam is a rock band, period, and there's not a damn thing wrong with that.

                            Take care,

I was looking for a song in my music folder and I forgot I actually got the new Pearl Jam album last week.

I wouldn't consider myself a big PJ fan but I like some of their older songs.

I'll probably give it a listen this weekend to see if it's good or not.
