How smart are you? A puzzle mind game

    Petals around the Rose

Its an interesting game called Petals around the Rose. You're given a bunch of dice shown what appears to be randomly, and you're supposed to put a number into the box. There is only one correct answer for each combination of dice. The question is, can you figure out the algorythm, formula or pattern needed get the correct answer consistently. Some people get it within seconds, some take years. You shouldn't need any more information than that.

Now, I will give advice and hints periodically. However, the one rule I have is if you do figure the puzzle out, don't ruin it for anyone, because that's ****ing rude, and much less fun than if you let people struggle with it themselves.

Now, here is my first hint: The name of the game, is very important.

Good luck. Read the brief instructions and give it a shot.

Its one of those things that doesnt mean you're dense if you dont get it. You have to think outside the box in finding the answer.

It took me about an hour and a half. I sat for ages driving myself nuts, then went and got a sandwhich before sitting down and getting it within a few minutes.

I figured it out in about five minutes.

And that probably worked to your advantage in this case.

I doubt anyone here will say it took them a long time, to much pride. I thought my 90 minutes was a long time, I was just thinking to analytically. I'm probably giving to much away here by saying that. But I remember reading about a math prof who took months to figure it out and refused any help.

I can only see it taking that long if you don't know the name of the game.

I can't even see it taking that long even if you don't know the name of the game. You should be able to figure it out relatively easily after paying attention to your incorrect answers and using a bit of logic.

Yeah, I didn't realize the name was an important clue. It took me 20 minutes. I was looking for patterns and such.....

Just a quick question (for those that figured it out). Is it something that, once you know it, it's something that every time that you roll, you can just see it within seconds? Or does it still take about half-a-minute or so because of something?

You can P.M. me if that's giving too much away.

                          Thanks.

Once you have it, you'll know it instantly.

But keep trying, and try to think outside the box, and remember the name of the game, its important. Dont cheat and google it, you'll feel very unfulfilled, haha.

Bah, I got it. I thought that it had to do something with that before, but I guess I wasn't thinking carefully enough.
