    "For Love of the Game"

Anyone else love this movie? It's always been a favorite of mine, not just a favorite sports movie. I feel it is greatly underappreciated by most, mainly because most feel Costner was better in "Field Of Dreams" and "Bull Durham". I feel this was right up there with those performances.

Not only was Costner's performance great, but the movie as a whole just felt "real". They really captured the feel of Yankee Stadium, as i've been there a few times, and they got it right.

On top of all of that, the emotion in the movie, and especially in the final inning, is amazing. I get goosebumps everytime I watch the movie.

Anyone else love this movie as much as I do?

For me, I'll remember this movie for one thing and one thing only. It was a chick flick disguised as a sports movie, and that is one rotten trick.

Well yes, but I really enjoyed the movie despite that, haha.

yeah I like it. It's a good baseball movie I can watch with my wife. As it goes for Costner baseball movies, I would say Bull Durham > For Love of the Game > Field of Dreams.

I really liked the movie too. He kind of reminded me of a Greg Maddux-type character. The bonus to the whole movie was of course Kelly Preston. She's gorgeous!

Its so cheesy and corny I almost throw up when I watch it.

              Seriously.

That speech his catcher makes near the end of the movie on the mound(I won't ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it) easily goes down as one of the corniest moments in a sports movie.

I honestly don't even remember that part. I do remember Kelly Preston though. ...and "clear the mechanism."

Yeah I like that movie, I have it on DVD. I think Sam Riami (sp) is a very excellent director. He of the SpiderMan movies, and "A simple plan".

Re: "For Love of the Game"

I have to admit I love this movie.

I know it's kinda a chick-flick, but it's NO WHERE NEARLY AS BAD AS BULL DURHAM!!!

I just like the struggle they show with him on the mound. Every decision, of every batter. Reflecting back on his life....his career. What's important in life. Knowing that his life off the field is much greater than anything he could possibly accomplish on it. But still being overcome by what is happening in "this game". This moment. Every thing he's ever tried to accomplish. His teammates. His whole life....as he's known it...it's still not everything.

It's a great movie. One that I'm glad to own and watch over and over.

This movie really catches the passion and the thinking of the character. The pressure he's facing.

                    I absolutely love it.

I remember that movie, it was pretty good despite the love story part. I love when Kevin Costner's character (Billy Chapel) goes out to the mound at Yankee Stadium and listenes to all the profanity and crap yelled at him and says "I can always tell when I'm in New York."

lol, I actually used the clear the mechanism thing while batting in HS... it really worked... zoning out and hearing nothing is such a cool feeling.... it's like everything is a blur and all your focus is on one single thing.
