Also, those of who are fans of his, how is his Live At Georige Theatre album? I'll be picking it up soon, but I was curious to what the impressions are on the live album.

Derek Trucks
Is anybody familiar with this modern day guitar virtuoso? At the age of 12 he was on stage with the Allman Brothers Band (his uncle is drummer Butch Trucks) and Buddy Guy. By the age of 20 he had jammed with Bob Dylan, Joe Walsh, Stephen Stills, etc. Now, he's going to tour with Eric Clapton on Clapton's European Tour leg starting May 5th. Derek has his own band called The Derek Trucks Band which style includes blues, classic rock, classic R&B, and jazz. For those of you who have not listened to his music and enjoy guitar-rock, blues, or, simply put, great music, then I'd definitely recommend his new album Songlines.

Re: Derek Trucks
Listening to "Songlines" right now. Very, very good album. I also like "Soul Serenade," but that's much more of a jazz record than the new one.
Never heard that live album. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip!
Take care,

Re: Derek Trucks
Listened to "Songlines" again today, and it really is a super album. The guy can play just so many styles, and he plays with such touch, emotion and passion.
I'd much rather listen to an emotive player like Derek Trucks than a shredder like Satriani or Steve Vai any day of the week. It's kind of like the difference between listening to an excellent singer with a delicate sense of phrasing like Sinatra and someone who just warbles and wails like Mariah Carey.
Take care,

Re: Derek Trucks
I saw The Derek Trucks Band and The Allman Brothers Band last night up in DC. The weather was horrible. We drove in rain all the way up there, up until we got about 20 minutes away from Nissan Pavilion. Black clouds were circling around and closing when we were walking to the stage. As soon as DTB started playing, so did the rain, thunder, and lightning. It stormed throughout DTB's set, which was awesome. They played a lot from "Songlines" and did a cover of Derek & the Dominos' "Any Day." Favorite parts was Derek Trucks (of course), Mike Mattison, and whoever did the keys and flute. I love Mike's vocals and the great thing about him is he's always smiling and his smile is at least ten miles wide.
The thunder and lightning stopped just as The Allman Brothers Band was taking the stage, but it continued to rain. ABB put on a wonderful set with a lot of songs from their early days (self-titled and Idlewild South). Warren Haynes, even with his pudgy fingers, is a great guitarist and is fun to watch, but not as fun to watch as Derek Trucks. The jams were great, especially the drum solo at the end of the show. Awesome set. They did a cover of The Band's "The Weight" which was really good.
Going back to the car, we got a little wet from the rain, but my shoes got soaked thanks to the hundreds of ankle-deep puddles. Getting back on the interstate took half an hour because the rain had flooded some roads, which meant we had to take a detour route. It rained all the way home, so we got back later than we thought. Driving through that flood was well worth the experience though. Two fantastic sets. Great night.
