    New Tool CD 10,000 days

I got this one today at Circuit City for $10. First of all what a wild case this thing has. When you pop the CD in it starts off like the Tool we all know and love (well us Tool fans anyways). I can't really give a full review but I will say I really, really like it so far after 1 listen. So far the best song is 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2) IMO. I will say one thing, the CD is really ominous sounding and somewhat creepy (which I find really cool). I think this will be a classic CD after some more listens because usually first listens of CDs from bands I love I don't like (I guess it's lack of familiarity oftentimes) but this one I really enjoyed the first listen.

Anyone else picked this up today and if so what are your thoughts?

Been listening to it for a couple weeks now. Bought it today. The art is really cool

Tool's albums always require an incubation period. My ear for them and my interpretation of them changes so much over time, but I always end up loving them.

Favorites so far are Right in Two, and Lost Keys / Rosetta Stoned. Oh yeah the middle part of Jambi really hauls as well.

            As with every Tool CD:

1st Listen: What the heck is going on?

2nd Listen: Tracks 1, 2 and 5 are pretty cool.

3rd Listen: Tracks 1-5 and 8 are pretty cool.

4th Listen: Tracks 1-5 and 8 rock, Tracks 10 and 11 are pretty cool

            5th Listen: Tracks 1-5, 8, 10 and 11 are unbelievable.

6th Listen: Even the filler tracks are pretty cool.

My favs are Vicarious, Jambi, 10,000 days, The Pot, and Rosetta Stoned. My favorite on the album (and up there with their other materpieces) is Right in Two - the song is amazing. With each Tool CD, the more you listen the clearer it becomes. This one is no different.

I forgot about this. Yes, listened to it maybe two weeks ago, don't like it. Too much filler with bland power chords and a lack of melody with most tracks. You would think after 5 years they would have done something different. The only track that jumped out at me as sounding different was The Pot, otherwise this sounds like Lateralus part two with less substance. Since it's Tool though, everyone is going to proclaim it a masterpiece.

I agree 100% with you, even though I am of the opinion that Maynard's A Perfect Circle stuff is better. The audio hooks are just better with a perfect circle.

You're supposed to look through them to view the artwork on the inside. It looks 3D, pretty cool.

Wow, what a difference a week makes. I'm addicted to this CD. At first I was somewhat impressed and thought it was a good CD but now I can't go a few hours without putting it on. It's one of their greatest CD's IMO and as for the "filler" I think there is very few of that, if any, after listening to it as a whole.

I am a casual fan at best, just want to point that out before posting my opinions. I'm not really impressed at all with this album, I definitely hear the filler, maybe I will like it more with more listens, not really sure. It sounds a LOT like Lateralus to me, but with more filler. I will listen more for sure, hopefully I begin to like it more, but right now it isn't quite as good as I had hoped.

I do agree. I love the first song a lot, and I think that for the most part Tool can't ever release anything that is crappy. They have had some solid releases over the years. I can't wait for the A Perfect Circle release.

Maynard has said that A Perfect Circle is likely finished. eMotive finished out their record deal, and they all seem to be going in their own directions.

Now that the album has been out for a couple of weeks, I have to admit that I'm slightly disappointed by it. Don't get me wrong, it's still really good, but it's not really up to the standards of their past albums. Perhaps I hyped myself for it too much during the long wait. But I find Pearl Jam's new album in my CD player alot more than Tool's...

Ok, this CD has gone beyond just enjoyable for me to getting to the point where I believe I may lose my sanity because I crave it like crack. Several of these songs have burrowed into my brain and will not stop even when I'm not listening to the CD I hear them. At this point I'd just like to get a break from the constant playing of the CD but even when it's off I can't escape it. To say it's catchy is like saying saying King Kong is tall. Has anyone else here had the same experience with this CD?
