    Free Comic Book Day

As the name implies, Free Comic Book Day is a single day when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world are giving away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores. Free Comic Book Day will take place on May 6, 2006, and many stores will have artist appearances and other special events to celebrate.

More details are available at http://www.freecomicbookday.com/.

I plan on picking up: Archie Comics 65th Anniversary Bash, Star Wars/Conan Flip-Book, X-Men/Runaways, and Justice League Unlimited # 1.

FCD is usually pretty cool, nice sales and stuff and the stores.

Oh yeah, I'll probably grab the Wolverine HeroClix. I have no idea what these little things are, some kind of game I gueses, but I have a Batman one from last year's FCD sitting on my monitor.

        Nerds

I bought a few comic books when I was a kid. I was more into buying sport cards though.

BTW I have the number one issue of Venom. I wonder how much that's worth.

          A dollar? Maybe two?

Modern comics are not an investment hobby, especially not ones from the collector's boom of the mid-90s.

It's free, right? What can it hurt?

There's a lot here outside of superhero stuff, too.

That Archies comic sounds nice as well as that Star Wars. I used to love the Archies. I did'nt even know Star Wars had a comic. I guess its pretty safe to assume that damn near anything that can be considered fiction has been made into a comic series.

Star Wars just launched two brand new series. One in the past, "Knights of the Old Republic", where a young padawan is trying to escape from a group of Jedi Masters gone mad. Another one is a comic taking place after A New Hope titled "Rebellion, My Brother My Enemy". It is centered on an old childhood buddy of Luke who is now a soldier in the Empire. He is struggling with being on the other side of the war that Luke is on. And one more Star Wars comic starts this month called "Legacy". It takes place 1000 years after A New Hope and centers on a decendent of Luke. I think his name is Cabe Skywalker or something like that. Don't know what the story will be about.

Star Wars fans should check them out if you want to do some light reading.

I collected comics in the mid 90's as a kid but it got to be way too expensive and I never had a reliable ride to the comics store. I started again in 02 but quite again around late 03 or 04 because it seemed like every time I started to get into a series it would get cancelled. Plus the 30 mile drive to the comic store was a pain.

I would go and get the Archie comic but well, the comic book store I go to is over a half hour drive from here. It's not worth my time to go all the way there just for one book.

However, if I can convince my father to drive me there then i'll go.

                    (I really hate that I can't drive )

That JL Unlimited is sick! I got my son into comics, I have a massive collection, and quite a few that I picked up as a kid in mint, and in mylars worth quite a bit. I told my son they are all his when he gets older.

I'm definitely going to pick up the Transformers Movie Prequel comic. Probably grab an Archie and a Legion of Superheroes as well. Stores usually have sells on FCD as well, there's a few back issues I've been wanting to get that I'll pick up tomorrow as well.
