oh..i see. I probably cant help you then....My problem was it never even got to the game title screen at all; it just stayed at the browser screen.
Anyways, I fixed my problem by just blowing inside the playstation (ala the old nintendo system). It also seems to work better for me if my playstion is vertical.

What kind of clicking? Mine was making almost a grinding sound and I was able to fix it.

OK, from the splash screen or browser screen it takes about 7 sec for the laser to read a disc...well on mine, when it gets to 7 i hear the clicking noise...which means my laser hasn't read the disc yet...thats if it doesn't load to the title screen ie. "PlayStation2"...follow me? when my laser DOES read the disc, it'll go to the Game title screen ie. EA SPORTS...then i get a continuous clicking...it doesn't advance...i've thought about adjusting my laser power...whata ya think?

Well, if it's already dead or dying, it really couldn't hurt it anymore than it already is.

My first PS2 was doing the same thing when I decided that it was on it's last legs and needed a little "investigative" work, if you know what I mean. So, I proceeded to take the damn thing apart and see if I could fix whatever the problem was. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to, but was able to get it pieced back together to the point where it would still operate. Granted, it wasn't doing this on every game that I tried it with, just the EA Sports games that I wanted to play. So, I ended up buying one of my friend's extra PS2s and selling the busted one to one of my other friends who didn't play sports games and wanted a cheap PS2. As far as I know, my original PS2 is still working in some way shape or form, but it still won't load up EA Sports games.

Hmm not sure if its the same, but I can tell you how I fixed mine. I was having the same problem with games not loading, and it was making a clicking sound as they tried to load. When I opened it up, I cleaned everything out and reapplied grease, but that didn't help.

The source of the clicking was from the bar that moves the laser back and forth. Basically, it has threads and the arm coming off the laser has a little tab that fits into these threads. On mine, the arm was kind of loose and it was slipping over the threads when it tried to move the laser, which is where the clicking came from.

All I did to fix it was bend the metal arm coming off the laser a very small amount, to make it fit snugly against the bar with threads in it. Hope this helps. Here's a picture of the piece I'm talking about:

Ok, you know the little white cog wheel in the back right...it adjusts the laser angle i think...every time i adjust this a few clicks...i have it marked w/ a felt tip...anyways, after i insert a disc and the laser tries to read it... i take the disc out, and my mark on the wheel is where it started, it's as if i didn't adjust it a few clicks at all...my laser won't stay at the angle i adjust it to according to my marked wheel...follow me?

Nope, I never did anything with that piece. Sorry I can't be of more help.
