Re: Comic Book Fans....
Did Bruce hire Alfred? Yeah, sorta I guess. Alfred worked for the Waynes and then stayed on to bring up Bruce after their deaths. I guess Bruce pays him, but it isn't a matter of money.Originally posted by Fresh Tendrils

No, I mean in All-Star Batman & Robin. When Alfred is introduced, they give his history with the British Air Force and Her Majesty's Secret Service. Unless that is old news and I'm just discovering the fact.

The Waynes hired Alfred away from the Royal Family. As I remember it, he was something in the British military, it shows from time to time when Batman isn't there to save his skinOriginally posted by Fresh TendrilsNo, I mean in All-Star Batman & Robin. Re: Comic Book Fans....
I just read The Killing Joke finally...my God. That was ridiculous. Freaking awesome comic.
My RA has most of the Deadpool/Cable series, so I'll probably start on those next...I just wanted to see if The Killing Joke lived up to the hype and it might've actually been better than I expected.Comment

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Its my favorite Batman story arc I've read thus far, with the exception of Batman: Year One of course.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Batman comics. The Killing Joke is by Alan Moore (V for Vendetta, The Watchmen, etc) and drawn by Brian Bolland (Judge Dredd). Hush is by Jeph Loeb (The Long Halloween, Superman For All Seasons, etc) and drawn by Jim Lee (Wildcats, All-star Batman and Robin, etc).Last edited by aukevin; 09-22-2006, 08:12 AM.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
The Killing Joke was so...mind-blowing.
If Nolan actually does draw his inspirations for the Joker for the next Batman movies from that comic...Batman: The Dark Knight may be, hopefully, one of the best superhero movies ever made.
And FT, I'll have to ask about the Hush-arc. If he doesn't have it, where would be the best place to order it from?Comment

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Not about Graphic Novels but about the ongoing comics but I have to make these observations:
Paul Dini is a great writer and Grant Morrison is OVER-RATED!
OK i'm done

Re: Comic Book Fans....
Paul Dini's stuff has been real good on Detective lately. I look forward to it each month. I think Morrison is great too. The current Batman and Son story has just started so I don't know how it'll turn out and if I'll like it, but so far it's been nice to read. I just wonder what the long term effects the story might cause. But Morrison has a great reputation and I know he will do the character well. I did read Morrison's Seven Soldiers stuff on fossen's recommendation and it was interesting. Different than a lot of stuff I read, but still very good. I'm really looking forward to Morrison's stuff on Wildcats and The Authority next month with the Wildstorm relaunches.
Others know more, but if I buy a TPB, I usually just get them on ebay. You can find some good deals there. If I don't get it from there, I get it from amazon. You can get Hush in the two softcover TPB volumes or the one hardcover Absolute Hush edition that has both volumes in it. Hush really was a cool story, I enjoyed it a lot as it was coming out. If you start like the Batman books, be sure to read The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. Knightfall is cool too.And FT, I'll have to ask about the Hush-arc. I just got done reading Superman: Secret Identity. I've been wanting to read this for a while and finally picked up the four issues of it on ebay, there's also a TPB of all 4 together, but I like reading them separately. Secret Identity is written by Kurt Busiek, who I've said before is becoming one of my favorite writers after reading his Astro City and the current Superman stuff. Secret Identity was awesome, it ranks right up there with Superman: For All Seasons as my favorite Superman stories. Secret Identity, isn't about Superman though, well kinda. It is about Clark Kent, a boy from a small Kansas town. In this story, Superman is just a character in comic books like our lives, and the boy's parents' named him Clark because they thought it was funny since their last names are Kent. But what happens is when Clark hits his teens, he starts developing super powers. The four issues take you through his entire life and you see how he deals with having these super powers and should he become a real life Superman. Great story and I recommend it to everyone.

I also pick them up at Amazon.com if I can't find them at my local shop or at my local book stores (Barnes & Noble, Books A Million). I've used eBay to pick up the available issues of All-Star Batman & Robin (speaking of which, how many issues are out now?), done by Frank Miller and drawn by Jim Lee. I recommend picking the TPB up whenever the story arc is done..

Also Longhorn, if you haven't already, check out Frank Miller's Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns. Both of those are terrific. His series Sin City is also superb. Check those out if you liked the movies.
Cool concept. I might have to check that out.I just got done reading Superman: Secret Identity...In this story, Superman is just a character in comic books like our lives, and the boy's parents' named him Clark because they thought it was funny since their last names are Kent.
