I only really read on going comics, never really go back and read anything that I don't already have. But I get physical monthlies from the comic book shop still. I go about every four or five weeks and pick up my copies that they put in my box for me. I'm reading 7 Star Wars titles, Spidey/DP, Walking Dead, the new Avengers series, and the Hunt for/Return of Wolverine series. Never have done digital before.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
I'm almost done with the first volume of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and about 1/3 of the way through the first volume of JMS run on The Amazing Spider-Man.
It's pretty cool to watch the turtles evolve gradually in the art as well as the characterizations themselves. Early on some things are set for the long-run (Raph's brash anger and Leo's unflinching leadership and loyalty), but it's interesting to see everything so raw. There's an issue where Raphael seems to be more inline with Mikey (who is still a relatively straight character) as he's showboating and gloating in a couple action sequences. I'm a little bit surprised by how quickly things have moved early on. The aliens are brought in with a quickness as The Shredder is "dealt with" early on and then of course inter-dimensional travel gets involved.
Also, Casey Jones is a ****ing psycho.
Spider-Man has been great. A good jumping on point that isn't a reboot or wastes time for origin expositions. The volume covers some pretty heavy ****, too. Peter/Spider-Man foils a school shooting. There's a resolution involving domestic abuse. The attack on the World Trade Center. I've been pleasantly surprised how morally heavy the story has been so far. The internal struggle of Peter is to be expected and I love the thought of him teaching a high school science class, but weaving those in with the greater scope of the world's current events is fantastic. It makes the character (and series) seem bigger than what he is normally portrayed as they reach out past the scope of the personal struggles to incorporate the bigger world he's living in.

Re: Comic Book Fans....
For anyone that read Dark Knights, The Batman Who Laughs is coming back in a miniseries starting in November.
It's gonna be Batman vs BWL and his new partner, a Batman from the Dark Multiverse named Artillery Bats (in his universe, he shot Joe Chill after Chill shot his parents).

"looks at image and groans" Well at least it's a different reality.
Anywho i'm still chugging away on my great Batman history reread. (I don't know what I plan to be my cut-off date probably OYL but that's years from now in my reading) Right now i'm in (cover date) November 1981 so i'm in Gerry Conway's 2nd stint with the character right now. Some pretty interesting reading too.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Said character will be back within a yearSpoilerNot sure if it's still the case but there was a deal put in place between William Moulton Marston and DC that the character has to be continually published every year or else the rights to the character would revert back to the Marston estate. Re: Comic Book Fans....
Any advice for getting into comics? I love Japanese Manga, but that seems much easier to get into than various marvel/DC stories. You start at page 1 and you go into it stops. The next one you read won't have any relation to the last.
There seems to be many moving parts and cross overs (at least that is my perception) in comics. Is it as simple as starting at Spiderman issue #1? Don't a lot of characters first appear in another comic? What about the different worlds that exist within those comics?
Googling this question wasn't overly helpful.

Yeah everything is pretty connected for the most part. I was reading a comic once, and it had a "See Issue __ of ___" that referenced a comic from like 3 years ago.Any advice for getting into comics? The best thing to do is pick a character you're interested in, and start from the beginning of their most recent title. For example, you said Spider-Man. The current Amazing Spider-Man is only 8 issues deep, with the 8th actually coming out today. And he has a new series starting in February I believe, called Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
Something that could help you transition over (I'm not sure I don't read Manga) is there's actually a Batman and the Justice League manga.
