He would be an excellent choice. if not I would cast Thomas Jane or Christian Bale.

Josh Holloway was born to play Gambit IMO and no one else playing him will be as cool.

I just saw X3 last night and I thought it was pretty good, I don't know why all the reviewers trashed it so much but then i'm not such a big comic book geek fan of Xmen either so maybe that is why. I do know my favorite is still X2 by far though. No Nightcrawler = not as good.

I have a question. We saw that Magneto can overpower Wolverine because he has metal claws. My question is, why didn't he do anything to Colossus? What type of metal is he? I've never read any of the comics so I don't know if there is a reasoning behind it.

I don't think so, I'm just saying. Why could't he just throw him through the woods into the trees like he did Wolverine.

I'm sure he would've tried....but Colussus never really went after and/or up to magneto, so wasn't needed.

I'm trying to remember if he ever did in the comics and/or cartoon...can't recall, though.

Magneto can harm Colossus in the comics, and I assume he could in the movies as well, they just never had the two characters converge. At one point in the comics Colossus sustained an injury that permanently made him metal (I don't remember if Magneto had anything to do with it or not). His sister dies of the Legacy Virus shortly after and he leaves the X-Men to join Magneto's Acolytes where he remains for a short while. He actually rescues Magneto after an attack on Avalon (Magneto's asteroid base orbiting the Earth).

I don't know if Colossus and Magneto ever appeared in an episode together in the 90's cartoon. They did in the pilot episode for the 80's series but never fought.

Colossus lost his ability to change to human form when he was mortally injured during the Marvel Mutant Massacre (my all-time favorite crossover). He had a bunch of ninja stars and metal fork thingies stuck in his metal after shielding the team from a mutant called Riptide, who could spin himself (ala Taz) and throw projectiles with hurricane force. Colossus ended up killing Riptide by snapping his neck...which was was a significant moment in X-lore because Piotr was always written as an extremely gentle guy. Back at the ranch, his injuries were so severe that had he changed back, he would have died instantly. He was eventually healed (by Magneto) but he was permanently metal afterwards.

He didn't join the Acolytes until AFTER Illyana died. He had become disillusioned with Xaviers dream after her death. For the record, he also had a long-standing romance with Kitty Pryde, which makes the Iceman/Kitty/Rougue triangle so ********.

Anyway, my top choice for Gambit would be Harry Connick Jr. Who else could do a charming cajun anti-hero better? He's got the french creole accent on lock. Also, someone mentioned Depp...He would make a perfect Longshot, IMO.

Great call on Harry! I think that is a good call. I am sure some will laugh, but he is a good actor and just needs to get a little more toned and he would be perfect!

That's what I said, but thanks for claering up how he ended up in the metal state permanently. I knew Magneto was in there somewhere. Colossus killing Riptide was the second time he killed, it was Colossus who killed Proteus way back when (who would be pretty fun to see in a movie, now that I think about it).

The Iceman/Rogue/Kitty thing comes from Ultimate X-Men, I believe. Iceman and Rogue became an item in that series (probably influenced by the movie) and then Iceman cheats on Rogue with Kitty causing Rogue to run-off with Gambit (who ends up getting killed in a confrontation with the Juggernaut, and Rogue permanently absorbs Gambit's powers, just thought that was interesting though not really relevant here). Spider-Man actually gets thrown into it too and Kitty and him have something going on, which makes it a love square.....I guess?

Colossus was recently ressurrected in the normal lineage of comics though and he and Kitty are just peachy now.

That was quite a tangent, but kind of going back to the original question about why Magneto doesn't just mess Colossus up. Magneto and the X-Men have always had a lot of respect for each other and there was kind of a gentleman's agreement between them not to kill each other. Which is what made the issue where Magneto strips Wolverine of his adamantium skeleton so alarming. It can be assumed that Magneto could probably rip Colossus in two if he wanted to (as how the Age of Apocalypse Magneto did to Apocalypse).

Good stuff. I'm not hip to Proteus, gotta look him up.

I kinda stopped following the X-men after the Fall of the Mutants and Inferno arcs. After all of the Xmen were supposedly killed and spread about, I knew that they would use Inferno to start mucking with the stories. These newer x-overs seemed to be trying too hard to capture the drama and urgency The Massacre had created.

I've read a couple Ultimates, but I really haven't kept up with these "re-inventions"..I think those are more about trying to boost sagging sales, vs. legitimate character evolution, which turned me off a bit. A bad girl slutbag version of Jean Grey doesn't really do it for me, although I gotta say the art is freaking great.

Thanks for the info...at least the movie had some precedent.

You gotta check out the Proteus arc. I'm certain its been released in a Trade as it was one of the earlier issues after the "new" X-Men were formed after the incident on Krakoa. I know it was included in Wizard's compilation of best X-Men stories which can be had for about 20 bucks. It's a classic.

The Ultimate X-Men started off really well but then went down the crapper. I got into them because at the time the regular X-Men comics weren't very good, right now the Astonishing series is doing very well though so the Ultimate X-Men matter even less.

                                Misfit and HMcCoy,

A few yrs ago I had a wolverine comic where, though he no longer had the adamantium fused with his skeleton, he still had the claws but they were bone. I have long since misplaced it and can't remember many specific details of the story(ies). However, I believe it was three tales in one. And I do recall his hands were wrapped in bandages because of the wounds from his bone claws. I think something was wrong with his healing powers but I'm not sure. One story had him out in a blizzard or something where he killed a few wolves for food and fur. Also I remember a woman or girl asking him about his bandages and why his wounds wouldn't heal or something. He then told her about his confrontation with Magneto. Lastly, I believe Yuriko was in one of the stories as well.

Sorry I don't have more concrete details. But are you guys familiar with this issue?
