From the Earth to the Moon

My wife and I just started watching this miniseries last night and damn is it good. Originally made as a 12-hour HBO miniseries in 1998, it chronicles the history of NASA's "Apollo" space program from '61 to '72. It's hosted by Tom Hanks, features a great cast full of people you're sure to recognize from other movies and TV shows, and it really captures the excitement, wonder, and tremendous effort that accompanied this country's first ventures into space.

I'm only a few hours into it, but so far it's really top notch. It's a dramatic retelling, but the level of historical accuracy is very high and they use everything from real NASA equipment to real NASA spacecraft to recreate the events. The beginning episodes are really cool, as NASA faces intense pressure to get a man on the moon before the Russians do without even knowing if it's possible in the timetable they've been allotted, if at all.

If anyone is even remotely interested in the space program, or history in general, I'd advise you to check it out. Sending a man to walk on the moon today would be a tremendous achievement. When you consider that NASA accomplished what they did over 30 years ago, it's really incredible.
    Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.
Dash: [muttering] Which is another way of saying no one is.
