The Wreckers - Stand Still, Look Pretty

After a long delay the album is finally out. I have to give Michelle Branch credit for trying something different. This type of album isn't going to get airtime on MTV/Muchmusic. I'm not a fan of Country music but I really like the album. Although I would classify it more as a Country/Pop album.

My favorite songs are Tennessee, Cigarettes, Lay Me Down, Rain, and The Good Kind.

I've already seen The Wreckers live, but I'm still disappointed they won't be coming here in their new tour.

I have it, but have yet to listen to it. I'll give it a try and come back with thoughts.

i've gotta pick this up...not a huge classic country fan (though I like some stuff), but i listened to some stuff on their website and sounds like I might like it (plus I know I like Michelle Branch)...

They're touring with Rascal Flatts apparantly, not really up for paying an insane amount when they come to the Palace here in Detroit, otherwise I'd go

Just got done listening to it.

Let me start off by saying that I've always been a Michelle Branch fan. From Broken Bracelet through Hotel Paper, I don't think she's put out a bad album. My fiance also owns Jessica Harp's solo CD, Preface, which I have to admit never quite struck my fancy.

As for The Wreckers, the two singles -- "The Good Kind" and "Leave The Pieces" -- are the strongest tracks on the CD, in my opinion. Nothing really stuck out and grabbed my attention other than those two, and that's probably just because I've already heard both a great number of times. I really dig both tracks, but that just isn't enough to carry the weight of the CD itself. Granted, it's not a bad album, but at the same time, there was no track on it that made me stop and think, "damn, I need to hear that again" other than the singles which my girlfriend has already played to day.

Now, all of that said, I won't bury this CD in the "don't listen to again" stack and completely rule it out of Top Ten of '06 status just yet. I'll probably even give it a second listen to tomorrow sometime just to see if there is something there, because all the potential in the duo just can't be denied. I really want to like this album, so maybe it's just my current state of mind that is hampering me from really getting into it.

And one last note, I have no idea why this CD and the single are being classified as country. I'm really befuddled by that one. Every song on the CD sounds like it would fit perfectly on any of the other three Branch CDs, and both singles thus far would definitely be at home on Top 40.
