    Appropriate.

This sounds like a fantastic movie. Like a lot of other people I became a fan of Bale's after "Amercian Pshycho".
I just saw "The Prestige" the other weekend too. Great film and a great actor.

Bump. Limited release next week on July 4th. I'm not sure when it will hit nationwide, but I suspect either the 6th or 13th.

              Re: Rescue Dawn: Christian Bale

I just finished watching it, terrific movie. Beautiful shots from Herzog and both Bale and Steve Zahn give amazing performances. This role is probably Bale's best - he does an amazing job in this one. And Steven Zahn needs to do more serious/dramatic roles as he is a pleasant surprise.

To finally address Extreme's "Behind Enemy Lines" reply - this movie ain't no light-hearted Owen Wilson "war" flick. The two do not even compare.

                Steve Zahn was great.

Jeremy Davies also played another character I wanted to stab in the face. Thats pretty good acting I guess.

You guys should read around on the net about this film, there are a lot of historical inaccuracies and it's a shame what they did with the one character (the one who didn't want any of them to leave). In a way the real story would have been more interesting than the movie IMO.

I rented "Little Deiter Needs to Fly" after seeing Rescue Dawn. The real Deiter was in it and pretty much walked through the entire situation. From the crash to the capture to the escape and rescue. I initially thought Rescue Dawn was a little exaggerated, but pretty much everything in the movie really happened according to the man who experienced it all.

Weak, fragmented dialogue. Poor writing and poor editing imho.

Well do some googling on that guy and the story and you'll see what I mean. Especially the guy I spoke of who didn't want them to escape. In real life that guy was the actual leader of the escape. And unlike in the movie in which he was portrayed as a coward who failed to do as he was told by Bale, he actually went back for an injured comrade. His family has a website setup refuting a good portion of how the film portrayed him and the other survivor, the Korean guy, also backs up the family. Also, did you notice that the movie was made right after the real Dieter died? Many speculate that is because the story was changed a bit and if he had been alive he would have had issues with the changes.

Overall it was a true story and for the most part correct, but some things were changed in the movie for dramatic effect (in most cases to make Dieter look more heroic and the "main" hero when in fact there was more of a shared hero story to be told) and it's a shame.

I hate to break it to you but the dialogue was supposed to be fragmented. They were in a freakin' prison camp for God's sake, LOL.

I thought the dialogue was good; it was a good way to show the character's transformations - especially Bale's.

Maybe fragmented was the wrong word. The interactions he had even before the plane went down were just oddly presented imo. It just didn't flow. Comparatively to other war movies....it just didn't have it for me.

Hey, you're probably right. But if that dude was the real leader of the escape, why didn't they try to escape before? Weren't they in there for a few years when Dieter got the the camp?
