Dixie Chicks - Taking The Long Way

Politics aside, solid album all around.

I feel like the single Not Ready To Make Nice is clearly the best song on the record.

The album is over 65 minutes long, a lot longer than what I'm use to these days.

The other songs I like are: I Hope, Voice Inside My Head, Silent House, Everybody Knows, and The Long Way Around.

I agree that that single is the best song, and I also liked The Long Way Around. I liked Wide Open Spaces more.

Have you heard them before Natalie came on board? They had a more folksy sound and I have 3 albums worth of that music. They have some of my most favorite songs.

My fiance is a diehard Dixie Chicks fan, and I burned the CD for her a couple nights ago. Asked her how it was the next day and she said, "I made it through three songs. They were all just like the single. They were catchy, but it just got old." So, there you go.

Mayer has a solo on one of the tracks, that would be the only reason I even listen to any of the tracks. Even then, I doubt I would make it all the way through to where he is even featured. Their political stance doesn't bother me, I've just never really been able to listen to any of their songs without being really annoyed. They are just one of those bands that manages to get under my skin for no apparent reason. I think it has a lot to do with Natalie's voice though.

If I had to rank their three albums with Natalie pre-Taking The Long Way, I would say Fly first, then Wide Open Spaces, and Home in last.

Thank Heavens for Dale Evans is the best, with Little Ol' Cowgirl next. These are hard to get albums and I was lucky to find them. A few are up on ebay now. I also found a track that isn't listed anywhere - "Northern Rail," a fast one that's great.

I'm still looking for Danger in the Air, and Home on the Radar Range, but I've never seen them on ebay.

I never really cared for them but I heard their new single on Lettermen and liked it. I wouldn't go out and buy it off that one song, but I will DL it and see if it's worth a purchase.

They seem alot cooler than what I expected from listening to them on HS. Not uptight or snooty at all.
