    Forbes: Slacking At Work

    Great articles from Forbes...

It speaks a lot about what I have contended for years. While people think the 'Net causes more slacking off at work, it's actually the opposite.

    Really good read.

Well...there's a myth debunked. I guess it makes sense that that technology grabs people by the horns so to speak and make them slaves to the workforce. Actually there was a study released just a week or so ago and Americans have the least vacation days in the world. Canada is 5th worse IIRC.

France has the most vacation days with 37.

EDIT: Actually i'm a bit off I just looked it up. Italy has the most vacation days per year at 42, Canada only has 26 and the US with a measly 13

At my work not only do we browse wherever we want during the day, but there's a lot of people here that actually play WOW during the day.

We also play this cheezy tank game, like the old battlezone, over our server and even the supervisors will make fun of you if you suck at it. It's weird to have your boss walk up to do while you're playing a video game and not be mad at you.

We have a proxy server that requires authentication and the director of my agency refuses to give our users internet access unless they absolutely need it. I've always thought that giving people 5 or 10 minutes a couple times during the day to browse the net, pay bills, etc would make them more productive for the rest of the day. With the proxy server, we can monitor any abuse so there's no reason not to allow it. Luckily I'm the one who monitors the proxy server.

I think alot of companies could benefit from allowing employees to telecommute, and maybe every other Friday off.

Of course they dont think like this, but moving forward it wouldnt hurt to consider it. Shooting for more quality over quantity is never a bad thing

IMO it's really just a matter of getting your work done, and on time. It's not like we're all on OS and other websites at work constantly not working. I personally find that a quick couple minute refresh of OS or somewhere can clear your head a bit. If you're not producing though, then it's a problem...

Sure I agree with you, but i think it is harder to be more productive without those breaks. Some companies dont allow employees to visit OS, or surf the internet.

My Dad's work gives him every other friday off...but that's mainly because he works like 12-15 hour days, so they deserve it, lol.
