I think what he was saying, and mood correct me if I'm wrong... but that when the symbiot attached itself to Spiderman not only did it turn his suite black, it made him evil much like Venom, thus he was Venom first. Then the symbiot found Eddie Brock and the Venom everyone loves was created....

Or at least that's what I thought he meant

I think...my guess...might be because the Venom-Spidey suit took a toll on Peter Parker...which may explain why he looks so worn down and a little 'darker' than the normal Peter.

I always thought that Venom was an alien. And who ever wore him he took them over!

No, Venom is Eddie Brock infused with the symbiot... the symbiot is the alien... it came back with JJJ Jr. from his trip to space. Thus you were partly right, but the symbiot and not Venom take over the host.

Yeah...

the black symbiot latched onto a spaceship that came back, JJJ Jr. was one of the astronauts...Spiderman was there because the Ship crashed on a bridge(or I think that's how the cartoon had it, at least) and it ended up over-taking Spiderman, and rather than just fight it off and get rid of it...he gave into the darker-side because it made him twice as powerful, twice as fast, and allowed him to use his webbing without having to use the catridges. Then, he finally fought it off, went back to being Spidey, and the alien went to Brock and took him over.

I thought Spider did have a black outfit....wait he did. Just looked up some old comics, he got it during the Amazing Wars storyline which took place on another planet. Venom is black too, and Spidey has long since gone back to his standard suit. But for awhile he did have an all black suit with just a white spider. A bunch of replies at the same time beat this post it looks like.

The Black suit was actually a living being that had the ability to take any form that Peter wished it too. He found it during a Secret Wars/Amazing Wars (which ever). It enhanced his strength and other abilities and even did things to defend him, when he was fighting.

However he found that it was changing his character as well and he had a more difficult time controlling his emotions and actions. Sometimes he would awaken from sleep and be webslinging through the city.

When he realized that the living being which he thought was just some space age material, was trying to bond with him, he rejected it and had to get help from the F4 to get it off.

After this rejection, the symbiote hated Peter and eventually came in contact w/ someone else who had just as much hatred toward Spiderman. Eddie Brock accepted the symbiote and the two together became Venom.

I think that's how I remember it.

sounds about right... in the cartoon though, doesn't Spiderman go to a spaceship launching to get the symbiot off him? The sound drove it crazy and off his body I thought.

Yeah.

That's how F4 got it off also w/ some kind of sonic weapon. The black symbiote's weakness was sound. Maybe it was that way for Carnage also, can't remember that one.

The cartoon, I guess, just didn't have enough time to get all that in so they just brought the alien to earth and filled in the rest. enjoyable storyline though none the less.

The venom symbiote belonged to spiderman way before eddie brock was turned into venom. Peter Parker didn't just make a black version of his suit, he actually had the symbiote.

In the cartoon Rhino was trying to get the symbiote for the kingpin but spiderman already had it and he almost killed rhino. In the secret war series(from the comics), spiderman got the symbiote from an alien machine.
