Firstly, I'm a student with a fixed budget so I can't be shelling out for fancy pants Notebooks and such. I'm strictly a console gamer so basically all I would need it for is to surf the web, download tunes, and write papers.

What is a good basic laptop? How much would I be looking to spend? And where is a good place to buy? I live in Toronto but if there are better deals online perhaps that is the place to check out? I have the day off tomorrow so I am gonna go around and see what I can find.
My suggestions with anyone on a fixed budget is to look at Dell or Toshiba. You can't beat their price and they do a good job. Office Depot was running a special and still may be going on now, Toshiba 15.4" Laptops for $449 after rebate. Dell also sells laptops in this price range. I'll give you a link for Dell Coupons you can use on a Dell and they have reviews on just about every laptop made.
