The guy was old and clearly didn't know any better, but there's no way I'd give someone my HD to destroy and just assume it all went to plan. I'd have just kept it and taken a magnet to it myself....Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

when I worked for the university in college (for the college of engineering computer division), we had a specific machine with an add on attachment that'd allow us to fully wipe drives (like 10 at once), because we had to make sure they were clear before sending them back to Sun, IBM, Seagate, wherever....Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Man that's plain crazy and scary.
If it was me i'd just take a hammer to the HD and get a replacement. I know, not very practical but i'd do anything to keep my info from being seen.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

That night he put his PC out for the garbage. Next morning when he left for work around 6am, everything was gone. Someone driving around at night took the POS old PC and monitor. Unfortunately for them the PC didn't have a hard drive, processor, video card, memory, or cables. I took all of it!
Someone had to be looking for the hard drive and info as the motherboard on that PC can't run anything higher than a 166 Mhz processor. Not much will work on that nowadays.Comment

Re: Gotta love Best Buy
I wonder if a lawsuit is in order for this type of situation. I don't usually believe in stuff like that but I'm glad that I saw this. I guess I'll be buying a special hammer anytime I do my computer upgrade. By the way, wouldn't just reinstalling the OS on the HD kind of clear the HD??Comment
