Re: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
I just came back from this. This is a prequel of the first one, so it gives a little more insight on how the first one became what it was (Leatherface, the cop, the cripple, the butcherhouse, etc.)... but essentially, it was the same kind of movie. Nothing new here. Great horror. Probably not for the squeemish.
It was so very much like the first one (well, unless you consider this "the first one"), that if you weren't a fan of that one, don't see it. But, if you liked the first one, and you don't mind seeing variations of the first one, go see it. It's not a bad movie... just redone. But I'll be a sucker for it and see them every time.
This movie most certainly had scenes where people might have wanted to throw up... but according to Darren Bousman (Saw III director), if his hype is all true, Saw III will outdo this one.
Since both movies have done so well, I bet we do see a Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 down the road. I hope that they do learn from the mistakes that were made in the sequels after the first one, don't make Leatherface a p*ssy. They treated him like such a wuss in the later sequels and I think they need to keep him as a badass.
Looking at the past box office #'s:
Classics (Gulp...Next Gen isn't)
10/18/1974 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre = $26,572,439
1/12/1990 Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III = $5,697,588
8/29/1997 Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Next Generation = $94,558
Remakes/Newer
10/17/2003 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre = $80,390,022 (Budget: $13,000,000)
10/6/2006 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning = $26,507,121 (after 2 weeks)
If they continue to make good sequels, the money will come in.Last edited by CaptainZombie; 10-15-2006, 12:20 AM.Comment
