    Best Star Trek Series?

Ok I don't know how many Star Trek fans we have on this site but i'll give this a crack and see what the consensus is.

ENTERPRISE was a huge letdown IMO. It's very hard to do a retro series when the technology today is so much better. I also didn't really like the way the show was written. The show was hurt badly when they tried that experiment of doing one season long story-arc (tho it did get me to watch a few eps)

So ENTERPRISE has probably killed any future series. It will be interesting to see how the new movie detailing Kirk and Spock's time at Starfleet is done.

I will give my pick for best ST series in a few hours so as not to taint the vote or anything.

        Re: Best Star Trek Series?

Of course this is all my own biased opinion so don't melt down if you disagree. I think if you haven't seen at least 25 episodes of each series then you should abstain from voting. Casual or non fans always pick the original just on general principle. Nostalgia is one tough opponent to beat.

        My order is:

        Next Gen
        DS9
        Original
        Voyager
        Enterprise

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I voted that too. The way it unfolded from Season 3 onwards was just amazing with all the political stuff, the wars, the spiritual aspects with prophets/gods/demons. Unless I'm mistaken, it was the only one that really had a storyline developing over many episodes as opposed to the one story per episode that was common to all these series, and I'm not talking about cliffhangers either. The last few seasons, you really had to watch every episode cause it was all part of one big story. Other series have some backstory elements that would creep up here and there but it was basically a single story per episode.

I know many people didn't get into DS9 because the first 2 seasons were just ok and it was somewhat off-putting to many trek fans cause it was unlike the original series or TNG. But it really developped great later on.

TNG was great too. The last 2 seasons of Voyager were pretty interesting. I can't bare to watch the original series, most likely because I don't have that nostalgia of having seen them in the old days (I was born in 1981, started watching TNG iaround 94). To me, the poor quality of the visuals ruin it completely and I just can't get into it.

I was a fan of the Next Generation. Dont ask me why, I just liked that much better than the original. I haven't watched much of the rest.

the original series doesn't do much for me personally. I voted for TNG, then probably DS9 (though some years were shaky). Voyager was entertaining for a year or so, and i never got into Enterprise

                    Re: Best Star Trek Series?

                    Sheesh....

Looks like i'm the only one that voted for VOYAGER. Technically it wasn't the best series (that would have to go to TNG) but I really enjoyed it. It's weird, when the show first ran I only watched about 5 or 6 episodes. Since that time i've seen a good chunk of the series and I really like it.

To me, VOYAGER is TOS but updated and with a slightly different dynamic. Other then DS9 this series was the most relationship intensive series in Star Trek. You have the quasi "buddy" formula between Neelix and Tuvok, Tuvok and Janeway's respectful relationship and the Paris/Torres relationship that grew over time. You also can't forget the Doctor's growth from a hologram with terrible manners to an almost fully realized human.

The fish out of water aspect of having a Federation crew in uncharted space was also unique and it's that aspect of the show that lends its TOS-like quality. Encountering new aliens and strange occurances gave the show a very unique feel to it.

I didn't particular like the addition of 7 of 9 and the Borg as that put the show into a more conventional Star Trek mold but even then it was an interesting show to me.

                      Re: Best Star Trek Series?

The clear winner for me is Next Generation. It had the best cast: Picard, Riker, Geordi, Worf, Data, The Crushers, etc.

2nd best would be the original. It took a while for me to warm up to DS9 and Voyager but never ever got into Enterprise.

Although I like TNG best, DS9 was really good too, and underated in my opinion. The moral ambiguity and the darker political and religious overtones were definitely new to the Star Trek universe, and were sort of a precursor to what we're seeing now on Battlestar Galactica minus the existance of sentient alien species of course.

Star Trek TNG was clearly the best aside from the original IMO. Enterprise was garbage. I watched it each week but yeah, it was horrid and just really lame. Now that I think about it, I guess I just should have abandoned it but I kept thinking it would get better but yet it never did..

TNG easily for me, I agree that it just had an amazing cast, especially when comparing it to the other ones. The storylines weren't quite as good as DS9 but still very good.

I would put, for me, DS9 at 2nd and the original at 3rd, voyager and enterprise at 4th and 5th respectively. (though to be fair I have barely seen the bottom 2)

Since this is the ST thread, I'll go ahead and say the best TNG episode was where they got sucked in a time vortex/black hole thing and the same day kept repeating...each time them getting blown up. They finally figured out how to survive by sending the answer through Data with the number 3.
